Factors Influencing Real-World Use of the More-Affected Upper Limb After Stroke: A Scoping Review
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Existing interventions primarily focus on upper limb impairments and motor ability. Our findings suggest that interventions should also incorporate other factors: task type (unilateral vs. bilateral), hand dominance, self-efficacy, and perception of more-affected limb use as active ingredients in improving real-world use of the more-affected upper limb poststroke. We also provide recommendations to use behavioral activation theory in designing an occupation-focused intervention to augment self-efficacy and confidence in use of the more-affected upper limb in daily occupations. The effects of role stressors and smartphone interactions on delivery riders' unsafe behaviors during the delivery process in China
This study aimed to explore the effects of role stressors and smartphone interactions on delivery riders' unsafe behaviors. Methods. First, a questionnaire survey (N = 326) was used to collect data, and correlation and regression analyses were conducted to explore the relationship between role stressors, smartphone interaction frequency and delivery riders' unsafe behaviors. Second, a scenario survey (N = 35) was conducted, and comparative analysis was used to further explore how smartphone interactions affect delivery riders' unsafe behaviors. Results. The questionnaire survey revealed that role stressors, smartphone inte...

Work-, lifestyle-, and health-related factors among women and men working in the emergency medical services
Conclusions. Exposure to work-related factors that might affect health was common among ambulance personnel. Lifestyle- and health-related factors were somewhat contradictory, with a low proportion reporting lifestyle-related risk factors, but a high proportion having risk factors for CVD.PMID:38632949 | DOI:10.1080/10803548.2024.2332115 (Source: International Journal of Occupational Safety and Ergonomics)

Aspects of occupational safety, a survey among European cancer nurses
Nurses are particularly at risk for occupational exposure to hazardous cancer drugs, risking both acute and chronic health effects. Knowledge on the implemented safety precautions into minimizing these risks is limited. (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

The association of long working hours and short sleep duration on mental health among Japanese physicians
Ind Health. 2024 Apr 16. doi: 10.2486/indhealth.2023-0174. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis cross-sectional study investigate the association between long working hours, short sleep duration, and mental health among Japanese physicians. We enrolled 232 Japanese physicians. We used the Brief Job Stress Questionnaire to assess high-stress status, and the Japanese version of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale to assess depressive status. Daily sleep duration (DSD) and weekly working hours (WWHs) were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Multivariable-adjusted logistic regression analysis was...

Heat strain in professional firefighters: physiological responses to a simulated smoke dive in extremely hot environments and the subsequent recovery phase
This study investigated the effect of a single simulated smoke dive and the following recovery phase on physiological and perceptual responses. Nineteen professional male firefighters (43 ± 8 yr) performed a 2-min stair walk and a15-min simulated smoke dive in a two-floor heat chamber (110 °C to 272°C) (HEAT), followed by a 5-min stair walk outside the heat chamber. Heart rate (HR), gastrointestinal temperature (Tgi) and skin temperatures were registered continuously during the test. The Tgi increased significantly from the start (37.5 ± 0.3°C) to the end of HEAT (38.4 ± 0.4°C) and further increased after the heat e...
