Nutrition counseling in medical practices-a  cross-sectional study
DISCUSSION: Doctors consider NC a relevant part of their work, despite many barriers. To make better use of NC as a measure for treating and preventing common diseases, improvements like better nutrition education for doctors, better funding, and more time for NC are required.PMID:38639815 | DOI:10.1007/s00103-024-03870-0 (Source: Bundesgesundheitsblatt, Gesundheitsforschung, Gesundheitsschutz)

Employment and retirement among workers who develop vision loss in midlife
CONCLUSIONS: The decreasing likelihood of leaving the labor market after vision loss is an encouraging finding of this study. Workers who left the labor force after vision loss were more likely to be in precarious financial positions, and retirees did not have positive experiences with retirement. Assisting workers with vision loss to remain in the labor force is of vital importance, and increasing awareness and usage of free services for this population may reduce involuntary retirement and its negative consequences.PMID:38640188 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-230669 (Source: Work)

The effects of standing foot-transmitted vibration on self-reported discomfort ratings
CONCLUSIONS: The study suggests a potential connection between resonant frequencies and discomfort, potentially indicating injury risk. Although self-reported discomfort is insufficient for directly assessing injury risk from FTV, it provides a simple method for monitoring potential musculoskeletal risks related to vibration exposure at resonant frequencies. While professional vibration assessment remains necessary, self-reported discomfort may act as an early indicated of vibration-induced injuries, aiding in implementing mitigation strategies.PMID:38640185 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-230491 (Source: Work)

Longitudinal changes in lung function following post-9/11 military deployment in symptomatic veterans
CONCLUSIONS: More intense inhalational exposures were linked with lower post-deployment lung function. Those with distal lung disease (DDLD) experienced significant longitudinal decline in FEV1/FVC ratio, but other DRRD diagnosis groups did not.PMID:38641121 | DOI:10.1016/j.rmed.2024.107638 (Source: Respiratory Care)

Psychometric Properties of the Spanish Version of the Satisfaction With Daily Occupations and Occupational Balance in Spanish Stroke Survivors
CONCLUSIONS: The Spanish version of the SDO-OB presented good psychometric properties, making it a suitable instrument to address participation level, participation satisfaction, and participation balance in stroke survivors. Plain-Language Summary: After a stroke, survivors experience changes in their participation in daily activities and how satisfied they are with them. This study examined whether a tool called Satisfaction With Daily Occupations and Occupational Balance (SDO-OB) could provide reliable information about this. We looked at 140 stroke survivors from different places in Spain to see whether they had someon...

Difficulties Fulfilling Self-Care Needs Among Family Caregivers: An Observational Study
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Caring for a family member with a disability or chronic illness has a negative impact on the SCAs of caregivers, especially among female caregivers and those of younger age. Caregiving is also associated with lower occupational performance, satisfaction, and QoL. Plain-Language Summary: Caring for a family member with a disability or chronic illness can become a health risk for caregivers, who frequently ignore their own self-care. The study results found that women and younger family caregivers showed a greater decline in self-care. This study provides information to help occupational therapists...
