Self-Reported Disability Type and Risk of Alcohol-Induced Death - A Longitudinal Study Using Nationally Representative Data
CONCLUSIONS: The risk of alcohol-induced death varies considerably by disability type. Efforts to prevent alcohol-induced deaths should be tailored to meet the needs of the highest-risk groups, including adults with complex activity (i.e., activities of daily living - "ALDs"), vision, mobility, and ≥2 limitations. Early diagnosis and treatment of alcohol use disorder within these populations, and improved access to educational and occupational opportunities, should be considered as prevention strategies for alcohol-induced deaths.PMID:38635979 | DOI:10.1080/10826084.2024.2340993 (Source: Substance Use and Misuse)

A Delphi Panel of People With Parkinson's Disease Regarding Responsibility: Toward a Preliminary Taxonomy
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: This study yielded the first consensus among PwPD regarding responsibility in occupations as well as a classification system for charting the complexity of responsibility in occupations. The occupation list we have created can be beneficial to health care professionals when providing interventions or conducting outcome assessments. Plain-Language Summary: When planning interventions for patients with Parkinson's disease, it can be helpful for clinicians to be aware of patients' perspectives regarding their sense of responsibility to perform occupations. The use of a systematic sequence of challen...

Factors Influencing Real-World Use of the More-Affected Upper Limb After Stroke: A Scoping Review
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Existing interventions primarily focus on upper limb impairments and motor ability. Our findings suggest that interventions should also incorporate other factors: task type (unilateral vs. bilateral), hand dominance, self-efficacy, and perception of more-affected limb use as active ingredients in improving real-world use of the more-affected upper limb poststroke. We also provide recommendations to use behavioral activation theory in designing an occupation-focused intervention to augment self-efficacy and confidence in use of the more-affected upper limb in daily occupations. Plain-Language Summ...

The effects of role stressors and smartphone interactions on delivery riders' unsafe behaviors during the delivery process in China
This study aimed to explore the effects of role stressors and smartphone interactions on delivery riders' unsafe behaviors. Methods. First, a questionnaire survey (N = 326) was used to collect data, and correlation and regression analyses were conducted to explore the relationship between role stressors, smartphone interaction frequency and delivery riders' unsafe behaviors. Second, a scenario survey (N = 35) was conducted, and comparative analysis was used to further explore how smartphone interactions affect delivery riders' unsafe behaviors. Results. The questionnaire survey revealed that role stressors, smartphone inte...

Work-, lifestyle-, and health-related factors among women and men working in the emergency medical services
Conclusions. Exposure to work-related factors that might affect health was common among ambulance personnel. Lifestyle- and health-related factors were somewhat contradictory, with a low proportion reporting lifestyle-related risk factors, but a high proportion having risk factors for CVD.PMID:38632949 | DOI:10.1080/10803548.2024.2332115 (Source: International Journal of Occupational Safety and Ergonomics)

Aspects of occupational safety, a survey among European cancer nurses
Nurses are particularly at risk for occupational exposure to hazardous cancer drugs, risking both acute and chronic health effects. Knowledge on the implemented safety precautions into minimizing these risks is limited. (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

Using GPS and Self-Report Data to Examine the Relationship Between Community Mobility and Community Participation Among Autistic Young Adults
CONCLUSION: Health policymakers and providers should consider community mobility as a factor that can affect community participation in autistic individuals. Plain-Language Summary: Lower levels of community participation among autistic young adults affect health outcomes and overall quality of life. Community mobility is often a barrier to community participation. An understanding of the relationship between community mobility and community participation can lead to occupational therapists tailoring specific interventions and policies that support autistic young adults to engage in important life activities within the com...

Effect of concurrent exposure to noise and hand-transmitted vibration on auditory and cognitive attention under simulated work with construction tools
Conclusion. The HTV effect during concurrent exposure is hidden in auditory attention, and noise has the main effects. The divided attention was more affected than the selective attention in the different scenarios.PMID:38628029 | DOI:10.1080/10803548.2024.2337545 (Source: International Journal of Occupational Safety and Ergonomics)

Reliability analysis of respirators based on the analytic hierarchy process and multicriteria decision-making
This study examined the reliability of respirators using hierarchical analysis and multicriteria decision-making. The hierarchical structure, which consists of three assessment criteria and six product assemblies as decision possibilities, reveals that the priority of evaluation criteria follows the trend of cost, complexity and technology. Face-piece, triple-piece and visor assemblies have the highest failure rate, according to an analysis of product reliability at the assembly level. However, according to the analysis at the parts level, the most likely failures are found in the face-piece, upper and lower visor frames, ...

Diffuse pleural mesotheliomas with genomic near-haploidization: a newly recognized subset with distinct clinical, histologic, and molecular features
CONCLUSIONS: GNH defines an aggressive subtype of mainly biphasic DPMs in younger patients with recurrent alterations in SETDB1 and TP53. The enrichment in biphasic histology and TILs, together with our preliminary ICB response data and anecdotal clinical trial data, suggests that further evaluation of immunotherapy may be warranted in this subset.PMID:38630790 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-24-0085 (Source: Clinical Cancer Research)
