A prospective study of dietary patterns and the incidence of endometriosis diagnosis
Although endometriosis is a common condition —affecting ∼10% of premenopausal individuals—its etiology is unknown. Diet receives large patient attention, but studies of the role of diet are limited. Examining dietary patterns is essential to provide new insight. (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Choice and factors associated to the use of contraceptive methods among postpartum women: A prospective cohort study
There is a need for effective strategies to reduce the high rates of unplanned pregnancies. Encouraging contraception in the immediate postpartum period and offering the method may contribute to modifying the current scenario of vulnerability. Maternity healthcare professionals experiences of supporting women in decision-making for labour and birth: a qualitative study
Conclusions We found that MHCPs are committed to SDM but need better support to deliver it. Structured processes including Core Information Sets, communication skills training and decision support aids may help to consistently deliver SDM in maternity care. (Source: BMJ Open)

Maternal positional therapy for fetal growth and customised birth weight centile benefit in a Bayesian reanalysis of a double-blind, sham-controlled, randomised clinical trial
Conclusions Maternal nightly PT throughout the third-trimester did not have a statistically significant effect on CBWC on a frequentist analysis using the latest fetal growth standard. However, from a Bayesian analysis, clinicians can infer that PT is likely to benefit fetal growth but with a modest effect size. Trial registration number NCT02379728. (Source: BMJ Open)

Development of a scale for Attitude toward sexually transmitted infections based on the health Belief model
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) comprise various clinical syndromes that are caused by pathogens transmitted from one person to another via unprotected sexual contact. STI is an important public health concern in developing countries because of its high incidence and heavy disease burden due to complications and sequelae [1]. According to the World Health Organization, more than 1 million individuals are estimated to be infected with STIs every day worldwide. Moreover, 374 million new cases of curable STIs are reported annually [2]. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)

Neonatal herpes: case series in two obstetric centres over a 10-year period (2013-2023), France
Conclusion: This case series confirms that neonates at risk for HSV disease and poor outcome are those born to HSV-seronegative mothers, preterm infants, and those who received acyclovir after onset of symptoms (mainly because mothers did not present evidence of acute HSV infection). Our study confirms the major role of HSV-1 and the frequency of its early post-natal acquisition. What is known: • Neonatal herpes simplex virus infection is rare but motality and morbidity rates are high after disseminted disease and encephalitis. National recommendations exist worldwide but mangement of this disease is not always easy. Wha...

How does maternal anemia affect the levels of umbilical cord brain-derived neurotrophic factor?
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the BDNF value of the babies of healthy individuals is higher than that of anemic individuals. Our study showed that the amount of BDNF in the umbilical cord blood was significantly affected by maternal iron deficiency anemia.PMID:38677095 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2024.04.016 (Source: Reproductive Biology)
