Assessment of a Decade of Change in U.S. Assisted Reproductive Technology Cumulative Live-Birth Rates: 2004-2009 Compared With 2014-2020
CONCLUSION: This analysis provides insights into the changing landscape of ART treatments in the United States over the past two decades. The observed shifts in demographics, clinical practices, and technology highlight the dynamic nature of an evolving field of reproductive medicine. These findings may offer insight for clinicians to consider in counseling patients and to inform future research endeavors in the field of ART.PMID:38696814 | DOI:10.1097/AOG.0000000000005598 (Source: Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Health Care Utilization by Patients With Chronic Pelvic Pain
CONCLUSION: Patients with chronic pelvic pain have higher rates of chronic overlapping pain conditions and undergo more ED visits, imaging tests, and hysterectomies than patients without chronic pelvic pain. Improving access to multidisciplinary care, increasing utilization of interventions such as PT and psychological or behavioral therapy, and reducing ED utilization may be possible targets to help reduce overall health care costs and improve patient care.PMID:38696811 | DOI:10.1097/AOG.0000000000005595 (Source: Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Surgical Field Separation in Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Obstet Gynecol. 2024 May 2. doi: 10.1097/AOG.0000000000005596. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe aimed to study whether separating the vaginal and abdominal surgical fields during total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) is associated with surgical site infection rates. This was a retrospective cohort study of all patients who underwent TLH and any concomitant procedures with two minimally invasive gynecologic surgery subspecialists between January 2016 and May 2023. Among 680 included patients, the rate of infection was 0.8% with surgical field separation and 1.3% without (3/377 vs 4/303; odds ratio 0.60, 95% CI, 0.13-2.70). ...

Baron Antoine Dubois and the difficult childbirth of Napoleon I's second wife the Empress Marie Louise on 20 March 1811
ConclusionOur simulation confirmed the practicability of the application of the forceps as assumed by our hypothesis. Definitive proof that this scenario actually happened, cannot be given because there are no written first-hand accounts by Dubois on the delivery.PMID:38696140 | DOI:10.1080/00015458.2024.2350803 (Source: Acta Chirurgica Belgica)

Metformin for endometrial hyperplasia
CONCLUSIONS: Review authors found insufficient evidence to either support or refute the use of metformin, specifically megestrol acetate, given alone or in combination with standard therapy, for the treatment of women with endometrial hyperplasia. Robustly designed and adequately powered randomised controlled trials, yielding long-term outcome data are still needed to address this clinical question.PMID:38695827 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD012214.pub3 (Source: Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews)

Birth in Brazil II: a postpartum maternal, paternal and child health research protocol
This article presents a research protocol for estimating the prevalence of postpartum mental health outcomes in mothers and fathers, abuse and satisfaction in delivery/abortion care, and the correlations between them and socioeconomic, obstetric, and child health factors. As a 2-component research, it consists of a prospective cohort study with all postpartum women interviewed in the 465 maternity hospitals included at the Birth in Brazil II baseline survey conducted from 2021 to 2023, and a cross-sectional study with the newborns' fathers/partners. Interviews will be conducted via telephone or self-completion link sent by...
