Expectant management of preeclampsia with severe features diagnosed at less than 24 weeks
The recent ACOG practice bulletin offers no guidance on management of preeclampsia with severe features (PreE with SF) less than 24 weeks. Historically, immediate delivery was recommended due to poor perinatal outcomes and high maternal morbidity. Recently, advances in neonatal resuscitation have led to increased survival at peri-viable gestational ages. (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Blood pressure cut-offs at 11-13 weeks ’ gestation and risk of preeclampsia
A parallel has been drawn between first trimester placental vascular maturation and maternal cardiovascular adaptations, including blood pressure. Although 140/90 mmHg is well-accepted as the threshold for chronic hypertension in the general obstetric population in early pregnancy, a different threshold could apply to stratify risk of adverse outcomes, such as preeclampsia. This could have implications for interventions, such as the threshold for initiation of antihypertensive therapy and the target blood pressure level. Agreement between three noninvasive temperature monitoring devices during spinal anaesthesia for caesarean delivery: a prospective observational study
This study aimed to compare a noninvasive core temperature monitor with two readily available peripheral temperature monitors during obstetric spinal anaesthesia. We undertook a prospective observational study including elective and emergency caesarean deliveries, to determine the agreement between affordable reusable surface temperature monitors (Welch Allyn SureTemp ® Plus oral thermometer and the Braun 3-in-1 No Touch infrared thermometer) and the Dräger T-core© (using dual-sensor heat flux technology), in detecting thermoregulatory changes during obstetric spinal anaesthesia. Predetermined clinically relevant limits...

Seroprevalence of < em > Toxocara < /em > spp. in Pregnant Women: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: In the present study, significant prevalence was reported; however, considering the limited number of studies, it seems that the actual prevalence of the disease is higher. Therefore, it seems necessary to monitor this health problem in pregnant women.PMID:38682081 | PMC:PMC11055642 | DOI:10.1155/2024/1943353 (Source: Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Navigating an unexpected diagnosis - experience of a tertiary referral centre with two cases of intraplacental choriocarcinoma
Malays J Pathol. 2024 Apr;46(1):91-94.ABSTRACTIntraplacental choriocarcinoma is a rare tumour, with approximately 62 reported cases. It may manifest as a spectrum of disease ranging from an incidental lesion diagnosed on routine placental examination to disseminated maternal and/or neonatal disease. In this case series, we presented two rare cases of intraplacental choriocarcinoma with extremely varied clinical presentations. The extremely varied clinical presentations of both patients described in the case series complicated the process of arriving at the diagnosis. In both cases, subsequent investigations showed no mater...

Autologous platelet-rich plasma for assisted reproduction
CONCLUSIONS: We are uncertain about the effect of intrauterine or intraovarian administration of PRP on outcomes of assisted reproduction technology in infertile women. The pooled results should be interpreted with caution. Only one of the 12 included studies was judged at low risk of bias. Other limitations of the included trials were failure to report live birth, poor reporting of methods, lack of prospective protocol registration, low precision due to the small number of enrolled participants, indirectness due to the specific subpopulations and settings studied, and insufficient or absent safety data.PMID:38682756 | PMC...
