Importance of abortion training to United States Obstetrics and Gynecology residency applicants in 2023
Nearly half of obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) residency programs in the United States lost access to local training in abortion care following the 2022 Dobbs v Jackson Supreme Court decision. We aimed to determine whether OB/GYN residency candidates who desire abortion training apply to programs in states where abortion is restricted/banned. (Source: Contraception)

Three-Year Outcomes of a Randomized Clinical Trial of Perioperative Vaginal Estrogen as Adjunct to Native Tissue Vaginal Apical Prolapse Repair
As the muscular and connective tissue components of the vagina are estrogen-responsive, clinicians may recommend vaginal estrogen to optimize tissues preoperatively and as a possible means to reduce prolapse recurrence, but long-term effects of perioperative intravaginal estrogen on surgical prolapse management are uncertain. Workplace Microaggressions: Results of a Survey of the American College of Surgeons Members
Workplace microaggressions are a longstanding but understudied problem in the surgical specialties. Microaggressions in healthcare are linked to negative emotional and physical health outcomes and can contribute to burnout and suboptimal delivery of patient care. They also negatively impact recruitment, retention and promotion, which often results in attrition. Further attrition at the time of an impending surgical workforce shortage risks compromising delivery of health care to the diverse US population and may jeopardize the financial stability of health care organizations. Human versus machine: identifying ChatGPT-generated abstracts in Gynecology and Urogynecology
ChatGPT, a publicly available artificial intelligence (AI) large language model, has allowed for sophisticated AI technology on demand. Indeed, use of ChatGPT has already begun to make its way into medical research. However, the medical community has yet to understand the capabilities and ethical considerations of AI within this context, and unknowns exist regarding ChatGPT ’s writing abilities, accuracy, and implications for authorship. Preterm Preeclampsia as an Independent Risk Factor for Thromboembolism in a Large National Cohort
Preterm preeclampsia, a product of vascular dysfunction, is associated with prolonged hospital admission and proteinuria, significant risk factors for thromboembolism in pregnancy. The risk of thromboembolism in preterm preeclampsia warrants further investigation. (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Agnostic identification of plasma biomarkers for postpartum hemorrhage risk
Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is difficult to predict, is associated with significant maternal morbidity, and is the leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide. The identification of maternal biomarkers that can predict increased PPH risk would enhance clinical care and may uncover mechanisms that lead to PPH. Cervical elastography using e-cervix for prediction of preterm birth in twin pregnancies with threatened preterm labor
Preterm birth is the most common cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality [1 –3]. Several strategies have been studied for the management of preterm birth [4–34]. Most of these were evaluated in high risk singleton pregnancies, such as women with shortened length of uterine cervix. Many studies in literature support the use of vaginal progesterone in such subset populati on [4,35]. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)

Deep neural network (DNN) modelling for prediction of the mode of delivery

Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOne of the factors that worry obstetricians the most is the method of delivery. In recent years, the rate of caesarean sections has steadily climbed and now exceeds the threshold advised by medical organizations. Obstetricians typically lack the tools they need to assess whether vaginal delivery or a caesarean delivery is more appropriate. In this work, we suggested a computerized decision-making process for deciding on the best birthing style. The data was collected from 101 pregnant subjects who wer...

Correlation of 24-h Urinary Protein Excretion, Serum Indicators, and Placental Growth Factor in Patients with Preeclampsia and their Adverse Outcome
CONCLUSIONS: Combined screening of 24-h urinary protein, PAPP-A, β-hCG, PLGF, and serum indicators in early pregnancy are essential in predicting PE, allowing timely assessment of the risk of adverse pregnancy, and providing a basis for clinical intervention.PMID:38702157 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Pseudogestational Sac Delaying Diagnosis of Ectopic Pregnancy: A Case Report
We present a case of a 20-year-old woman who arrived to the Emergency Department (ED) with abdominal pain and ended up being transferred for an Obstetrics evaluation of a possible heterotopic pregnancy. Her radiology-performed ultrasound had revealed an "intrauterine gestational sac" along with an adnexal mass near the right ovary. The patient was not undergoing assisted-reproductive fertilization, nor did she have meaningful risk factors for heterotopic pregnancy. The patient was managed expectantly over the ensuing week to see whether the intrauterine fluid was a true gestational sac. After multiple repeat ED visits, the...
