Breeding of Saccharomyces cerevisiae with a High-Throughput Screening Strategy for Improvement of S-Adenosyl-L-Methionine Production
Appl Biochem Biotechnol. 2023 Jul 7. doi: 10.1007/s12010-023-04622-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTS-adenosyl-l-methionine (SAM), a vital physiologically active substance in living organisms, is produced by fermentation over Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The main limitation in SAM production was the low biosynthesis ability of SAM in S. cerevisiae. The aim of this work is to breed an SAM-overproducing mutant through UV mutagenesis coupled with high-throughput selection. Firstly, a high-throughput screening method by rapid identification of positive colonies was conducted. White colonies on YND medium were selected as positive...

TPE-based fluorescent probe for dual channel imaging of pH/viscosity and selective visualization of cancer cells and tissues
Talanta. 2023 Jun 22;265:124862. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2023.124862. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe development of efficient fluorescence-based detection tools with high contrast and accuracy in cancer diagnosis has recently attracted extensive attention. Changes in the microenvironments between cancer and normal cells provide new biomarkers for precise and comprehensive cancer diagnosis. Herein, a dual-organelle-targeted probe with multiple-parameter response is developed to realize cancer detection. We designed a tetraphenylethylene (TPE)-based fluorescent probe TPE-PH-KD connected with quinolinium group for simultane...

Oral manifestations of psoriasis
A 67-year-old male patient complained of pain and burning in the oral mucosa. On physical examination, erythematous plaques with whitish areas on the bilateral buccal mucosa and angular cheilitis were observed. Well-demarcated erythematous plaques covered by keratotic scales were also observed in the region of the ankle, trunk, and abdomen. Topical use of Nystatin and Miconazole was prescribed, but with no remission of the lesions and symptoms. Patient reported having Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis. Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 4777: Synthesis, Characterization, DFT Studies of Novel Cu(II), Zn(II), VO(II), Cr(III), and La(III) Chloro-Substituted Schiff Base Complexes: Aspects of Its Antimicrobial, Antioxidant, Anti-Inflammatory, and Photodegradation of Methylene Blue
a Abou El-ezz A new chlorobenzylidene imine ligand, (E)-1-((5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino) naphthalen-2-ol (HL), and its [Zn(L)(NO3)(H2O)3], [La(L)(NO3)2(H2O)2], [VO(L)(OC2H5)(H2O)2], [Cu(L)(NO3)(H2O)3], and [Cr(L)(NO3)2(H2O)2], complexes were synthesized and characterized. The characterization involved elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV/Vis, NMR, mass spectra, molar conductance, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The obtained data confirmed the octahedral geometrical structures of all metal complexes, while the [VO(L)(OC2H5)(H2O)2] complex exhibited a distorted square pyramidal structure. The complexes were fo...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 4304: Chenopodium murale Juice Shows Anti-Fungal Efficacy in Experimental Oral Candidiasis in Immunosuppressed Rats in Relation to Its Chemical Profile
M. ELsayed Chenopodium murale (Syn. Chenopodiastrum murale) (amaranthaceae) is used in the rural Egypt to treat oral ulcers in newborn children. The current study aimed to discover new natural products suitable for treating candidiasis disease with minimal side effects. Characterization of bioactive compounds by LC-QTOF-HR-MS/MS from Chenopodium murale fresh leaves’ juice (CMJ) was carried out in order to elucidate their potential anti-fungal and immunomodulatory effects in oral candidiasis in immunosuppressed rats. An oral ulcer candidiasis model was created in three stages: (i) immunosuppression by dri...
