Sintilimab and Cardiovascular Toxicity
To the Editor A recent randomized clinical trial reported improved overall survival among patients receiving the combination of sintilimab with first-line chemotherapy compared with chemotherapy alone in unresectable gastric or gastroesophageal junction cancer. We are concerned that the ORIENT-16 trial did not report on the cardiovascular toxicity associated with immune checkpoint inhibitors, which can cause severe immune-related adverse events, including cardiovascular toxicity, which although rare can be fatal. However, a systematic review of 48 studies (11  207 patients) reported on 146 patients with cardiovascular to...

Cytokine. 2024 Mar 18;178:156584. doi: 10.1016/j.cyto.2024.156584. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInfectious diseases are a cause of major concern in this twenty-first century. There have been reports of various outbreaks like severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2003, swine flu in 2009, Zika virus disease in 2015, and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in 2012, since the start of this millennium. Prognostic implication of Vasoactive Inotropic Score in adult patients with cardiogenic shock on veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation
CONCLUSIONS: Firstly, higher maximum level of VIS within the first 6 hours before ECMO initiation independently predicted poorer clinical outcomes in patients supported with ECMO for CS. Secondly, VIS exceeding 20 was significantly associated with increased risks of in-hospital mortality and 30-day mortality. Thirdly, when categorized by the cause of CS, a high VIS exhibited good predictive ability in patients with acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, and acute myocarditis.PMID:38505065 | PMC:PMC10944791 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-823 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)
