Assessment of Air Pollution in Ulaanbaatar Using the Moss Bag Technique
Arch Environ Contam Toxicol. 2024 Feb 8. doi: 10.1007/s00244-024-01050-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTActive moss biomonitoring, the so-called moss bag technique, widely applied in many countries, for the first time, was applied to assess the air quality in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia). Moss bags with Sphagnum girgensohnii Russow were exposed in triplicate in three different periods: December-February, March-May, and December-May at 13 governmental air quality monitoring stations located in the vicinity of thermal power plants and residential areas. The plant tissue content of Al, Ba, Co, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, P, Pb, Sr, S, V, A...

Viruses, Vol. 16, Pages 252: Sequencing, Analysis and Organization of the Complete Genome of a Novel Baculovirus Calliteara abietis Nucleopolyhedrovirus (CaabNPV)
This study focuses on the characterization of a baculovirus isolated from larvae of Calliteara abietis (Erebidae, Lymantriidae) collected in Mongolian pinaceae forests. This new isolate was called Calliteara abietis nucleopolyhedrovirus (CaabNPV). CaabNPV exhibits an irregular polyhedron shape, and significant variation in the diameter of its occlusion bodies (OBs) was observed. Nucleotide distance calculations confirmed CaabNPV as a novel baculovirus. The CaabNPV genome spans 177,161 bp with a G+C content of 45.12% and harbors 150 potential open reading frames (ORFs), including 38 core genes. A comprehensive genomic analy...

Sustained exposure to Helicobacter pylori induces immune tolerance by desensitizing TLR6
AbstractHelicobacter pylori (H. pylori, Hp) has been designated a class I carcinogen and is closely associated with severe gastric diseases. During colonization in the gastric mucosa,H. pylori develops immune escape by inducing host immune tolerance. The gastric epithelium acts as the first line of defense againstH. pylori, with Toll-like receptors (TLRs) in gastric epithelial cells being sensitive toH. pylori components and subsequently activating the innate immune system. However, the mechanism of immune tolerance induced byH. pylori through the TLR signalling pathway has not been fully elucidated. In this research, we d...

GSE254391 Regulation of Spermatogenesis by Different Alternative Splicing Events of MEI1 Gene in Mongolian Horse
In this study, the expression of MEI1 gene was determined by immunofluorescence in the third generation Mongolian horse testicular sertoli cells. Two overexpressed lentiviral vectors with MXE and SE events of MEI1 gene were constructed and successfully infected into sertoli cells. CCK-8 was used to detect the proliferation and activity of infected cells, transcripomics and metabolomics were used to screen and annotate differential genes and differential metabolites in the two sertoli cells with MXE and SE events. After 72 h of virus infection, 193 differentially expressed genes and 11360 differentially expressed metabolite...

Combinations of the azaquinazoline anti-Wolbachia agent, AWZ1066S, with benzimidazole anthelmintics synergise to mediate sub-seven-day sterilising and curative efficacies in experimental models of filariasis
Lymphatic filariasis and onchocerciasis are two major neglected tropical diseases that are responsible for causing severe disability in 50 million people worldwide, whilst veterinary filariasis (heartworm) is a potentially lethal parasitic infection of companion animals. There is an urgent need for safe, short-course curative (macrofilaricidal) drugs to eliminate these debilitating parasite infections. We investigated combination treatments of the novel anti-Wolbachia azaquinazoline small molecule, AWZ1066S, with benzimidazole drugs (albendazole or oxfendazole) in up to four different rodent filariasis infection models: Br...

128. Hazardous Alcohol Drinking and Attitude Among Youth With Mental Health Care Needs
Adolescents and youth health is often overlooked in Mongolian health system. These population group is unlikely to report mental health conditions due poor healthcare-seeking behavior. Currently there are no culturally validated screening tools for psychosocial issues of adolescents and youths, and healthcare providers fail to detect any risk-taking behavior at critical stage of life. This multifaceted gap leads to higher rates for fatal and severe health outcomes; suicide and substance abuse in youth. (Source: Journal of Adolescent Health)

SARS-CoV-2 Infection in Beaver Farm, Mongolia, 2021
We report an outbreak of COVID-19 in a beaver farm in Mongolia in 2021. Genomic characterization revealed a unique combination of mutations in the SARS-CoV-2 of the infected beavers. Based on these findings, increased surveillance of farmed beavers should be encouraged.PMID:38270179 | PMC:PMC10826759 | DOI:10.3201/eid3002.231318 (Source: Emerging Infectious Diseases)
