Incidence of chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction in cancer patients
CONCLUSION: Our meta-analysis unveiled a definitive overall incidence rate of chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction in cancer patients. In addition, it was found that the risk of developing this condition escalates within the initial 6 months postchemotherapy, subsequently tapering off to become statistically insignificant after a duration of 6 years.PMID:38634453 | PMC:PMC11024952 | DOI:10.1002/clc.24269 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

LncRNA SNHG1 overexpression alleviates osteoarthritis via activating PI3K/Akt signal pathway and suppressing autophagy
Immunobiology. 2024 Apr 6;229(3):152799. doi: 10.1016/j.imbio.2024.152799. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe hereby intend to further explore and confirm the underlying mechanism of Small nucleolar RNA Host Gene 1 (SNHG1) in osteoarthritis (OA). For in vitro assays, OA was induced in primary chondrocytes with interleukin-1β (IL-1β) treatment; while for in vivo tests, OA model was established in mice using the destabilization of the medial meniscus (DMM) method. Cell viability and apoptosis were assessed with MTT and flow cytometry assays, respectively. Cartilage tissue was stained by Safranin-O/Fast Green Staining. The mR...

CD58 alterations govern antitumor immune responses by inducing PD-L1 and IDO in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma
Cancer Res. 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.1158/0008-5472.CAN-23-2874. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRecurrent abnormalities in immune surveillance-related genes affect the progression of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and modulate the response to therapeutic interventions. CD58 interacts with the CD2 receptor on T cells and natural killer (NK) cells and is recurrently mutated and deleted in DLBCL, suggesting it may play a role in regulating antitumor immunity. Herein, we comprehensively analyzed the genomic characteristics of CD58 through targeted next-generation sequencing, RNA-sequencing, whole-exome sequencing, and single...

Chlamydia psittaci Screening of Animal Workers from Argentina Exposed to Carrier Birds
AbstractDifferent syndromes are involved in human psittacosis (flu-like syndrome, atypical pneumonia up to lacrimal gland lymphoma). Diagnostic methods include serology, culture, and PCR. The rate ofChlamydia psittaci (Cp) positive tests among exposed workers is still unknown. Our study aimed to assess the rate of positive tests among workers who have contact with carrier birds in natural reserves from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Secondary aims were to analyze risk factors linked to these outcomes and the occurrence of signs that suggest psittacosis. Nasopharyngeal swabs and serum pairs were collected from employees who had i...

Changes in income and employment after diagnosis among patients with multiple myeloma in The Netherlands
Due to new treatment options, survival rates in multiple myeloma (MM) are improving. Consequently, maintaining work and income is becoming more important for patients and society. Therefore, we aimed to explore the change in income and employment in patients with MM. (Source: Clinical Lymphoma, Myeloma and Leukemia)

Sociodemographic factors and Child Opportunity Index disparities associated with missed care opportunities in pediatric patients with lymphoma and leukemia referred for FDG-PET/CT
ConclusionChildren with lymphoma/leukemia, living in zip codes with very low or low COI, and who identified as Black/African American non-Hispanic/Latino experienced more MCOs. Our study supports the need to address intersecting sociodemographic, neighborhood, and health system factors that will improve equitable access to necessary healthcare imaging for children.Graphical abstract (Source: Pediatric Radiology)

Second line therapy in multiple myeloma: A SEER Medicare analysis
Introduction: The therapeutic landscape in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) has changed rapidly, with twenty-two drug approvals since 2012. We characterized population-level trends in RRMM therapy selection, survival and cost outcomes associated with RRMM treatment over time.Materials and Methods: Our cohort included adults diagnosed with multiple myeloma (MM) in the SEER-Medicare database from 2007 – 2017 who received at least one antimyeloma agent. MM-directed therapies and lines of therapy were identified. (Source: Clinical Lymphoma, Myeloma and Leukemia)
