HPV DNA Testing and Mobile Colposcopy for Cervical Precancer Screening in HIV Positive Women: A Comparison Between Two Settings in Ghana and Recommendation for Screening
CONCLUSIONS: There is a high prevalence of hr-HPV among WLHIV in both rural and urban settings in this study in Ghana. Concurrent HPV DNA testing with a visual inspection method (colposcopy/VIA) reduces loss to follow-up compared to performing HPV DNA testing as a standalone test and recalling hr-HPV positive women for follow up with a visual inspection method. Concurrent HPV DNA testing and a visual inspection method may also pick up precancerous cervical lesions that are hr-HPV negative and may be missed if HPV DNA testing is performed alone.PMID:38563112 | DOI:10.1177/10732748241244678 (Source: Cancer Control)

Sleep disturbances, altered brain microstructure and chronic headache in youth
AbstractChronic headache (persistent or recurrent headache for 3-months or longer) is highly prevalent among youth. While sleep disturbances have been associated with headache, their inter-relationship with brain connectivity remains unknown. This observational study examined whether self-report and actigraphy measures of sleep were associated with alterations to white matter tracts (i.e., uncinate fasciculus and cingulum) in youth with chronic headache versus healthy controls. Thirty youth aged 10 –18 years with chronic headache and thirty controls underwent an MRI. Diffusion tensor images were obtained and mean fractio...

The role of multiple high ‐risk human papillomavirus infection on the persistence recurrence of high‐grade cervical lesions after standard treatment: A systematic review and a meta‐analysis
ConclusionsMultiple HR-HPVs infections at the time of standard treatment of HSIL entail a small but significant increased risk of persistence/recurrence of HSIL and should be taken into account in the follow-up plan. (Source: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica)

Tritesting in Battor, Ghana: an integrated cervical precancer screening strategy to mitigate the challenges of multiple screening visits and loss to follow-up
CONCLUSION: This study brings tritesting into the spotlight, as an alternative to other methods, particularly for women who prefer this due to the advantage of a single visit to a health facility and being more cost-effective, if they have to travel long distances to access cervical screening services.PMID:38414966 | PMC:PMC10898900 | DOI:10.3332/ecancer.2023.1645 (Source: Ecancermedicalscience)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 847: The Coexistence of Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN3) and Adenocarcinoma In Situ (AIS) in LEEP Excisions Performed for CIN3
Conclusion. A relatively high rate (10.7%) of AIS-AC was found in women treated for CIN3. Our study confirms the multifocal biological nature of the CIN3 lesion coexisting with AIS compared to the single CIN3 lesion. All this justifies the different treatments to which CIN3 lesions coexisting with AIS are addressed; in fact, the latter are treated with hysterectomy, while CIN3 is treated with conization alone. Focused ultrasound versus the loop electrosurgical excision procedure to treat women with cervical high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions under 40: a retrospective study

Unraveling cervical cancer screening dilemmas: histopathological insights from VIA and LEEP at bugando medical centre, Mwanza
The single-visit strategy, also known as the “screen-and-treat” approach, is widely used to screen for cervical cancer in low- and middle-income countries. The screen-and-treat approach leads to unnecessary or... (Source: BMC Cancer)

251 LEEPs and cones: Do they impact labor induction duration?
Cervical excision via loop electrocautery procedure (LEEP) or cold knife cone (CKC) is associated with subsequent preterm birth, but these procedures may also lead to cervical scarring and stenosis. We aimed to evaluate how the post-excision healed cervix functions during labor in response to induction. (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Presence of 10 transformation zone cells in endocervical curettage should not be required for adequacy
CONCLUSIONS: We found that the presence of at least 10 EC/TZ cells does not increase the likelihood of finding HGD in an ECC performed in the 6 months prior to a LEEP with HGD. Similar to the use of the TZ component in cervical Papanicolaou smears, the presence or absence of at least 10 TZ cells in an ECC should only be considered a quality assurance measure and not be used as a criterion for adequacy of the specimen.PMID:38035727 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqad157 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Characterization of sleep efficiency transitions in family caregivers
AbstractFamily caregivers are at high risk of psychological distress and low sleep efficiency resulting from their caregiving responsibilities. Although psychological symptoms are associated with sleep efficiency, there is limited knowledge about the association of psychological distress with variations in sleep efficiency. We aimed to characterize the short- and long-term patterns of caregivers ’ sleep efficiency using Markov chain models and compare these patterns between groups with high and low psychological symptoms (i.e., depression, anxiety, and caregiving stress). Based on 7-day actigraphy data from 33 caregivers...

Effects of cervical stabilization training in patients with headache: A single ‐blinded randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsThis study suggests that CST reduces headaches and neck pain by improving the cervical musculoskeletal system in patients with headache.SignificanceThe CST improved the headache frequency, duration and intensity, neck pain intensity, cervical posture, activation of deep cervical flexor muscles and endurance of cervical muscles in patients with headache. In addition, improvements in the cervical musculoskeletal system contributed to a reduction in the intensity of headaches and neck pain. Therefore, CST may be preferred in the treatment of headaches, especially with coexisting neck pain. (Source: European Journal of Pain)

Prevalence of high-grade anal intraepithelial neoplasia in immunocompetent women treated for high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia
CONCLUSIONS: Women with a history of high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia have an intermediate risk of developing high-grade anal intraepithelial neoplasia. Future studies are needed in order to assess an ideal screening approach for this condition.PMID:37852112 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2023.10.014 (Source: Reproductive Biology)
