Overtreatment in the see-and-treat approach for high-grade squamous cervical cytology
CONCLUSIONS: The overtreatment rate with the 'see-and-treat' approach was 11.4%. Independent factors associated with overtreatment were current cervical cytological result of non-HSIL, and low-grade or normal colposcopic diagnosis.PMID:37753518 | PMC:PMC10518508 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100205 (Source: Reproductive Biology)

Are “additional cuts” effective for positive margins in cervical conization? It varies according to the doctor
High-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) is a disease that is closely related to the development of cervical cancer. In clinical work, cold knife conization and a loop electrosurgical excision procedu... (Source: World Journal of Surgical Oncology)

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 4203: Overexpression of E6/E7 mRNA HPV Is a Prognostic Biomarker for Residual Disease Progression in Women Undergoing LEEP for Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia 3
ara Boemi The risk of overtreatment or not treating an occult carcinoma exists in women at risk of residual disease after a LEEP excision for CIN3. Our goal was to discover an efficient method to select patients requiring a second LEEP from those requiring a FU only through an mRNA-detection test. In a population of 686 women undergoing a LEEP excision for CIN 3, we selected 285 women at risk of residual disease and subjected them to a search for E6/E7 mRNA HPV. The women with negative mRNA were subjected to a follow up, while the women with positive mRNA were subjected to a second LEEP. The histological examination of...

Mobile colposcopy by trained nurses in a cervical cancer screening programme at Battor, Ghana
CONCLUSION: We demonstrate the utility of a model where nurses trained in basic colposcopy can be used to successfully implement a cervical precancer screening and treatment program in low-resource settings.FUNDING: None indicated.PMID:37448995 | PMC:PMC10336638 | DOI:10.4314/gmj.v56i3.3 (Source: Ghana Medical Journal)

BDNF and NGF Expression in Preneoplastic Cervical Disease According to HIV Status
CONCLUSIONS: In preneoplastic cervical disease, BDNF expression is higher in HIV-infected women than in non-infected controls, and this is independent of the clinical features of the patients and from the presence of the HPV-HR genotype. BDNF can play a key role as a link between the pathways by which HIV and HPV interact to accelerate cervical cancer progression and invasion. These data can be useful to better understand the role of neurotrophins in the cancerogenesis of cervical cancer and the possible therapeutic strategies to improve disease outcomes.PMID:37445902 | DOI:10.3390/ijms241310729 (Source: Cancer Control)
