Analysis of factors affecting pregnancy rate after laparoscopic surgery for infertility associated with endometriosis
Endometriosis (EMs) is a common disease in women of reproductive age. It is characterized by the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. The ectopic endometrial tissue exhibits changes similar to the bleeding changes seen in the endometrial menstrual cycle, stimulating the surrounding tissue to experience congestion, inflammation, adhesion, and other changes. The main symptoms include: progressive dysmenorrhea, pain during intercourse, chronic pelvic pain, menstrual changes, infertility, and pelvic masses. Robotic-assisted hysterectomy for benign gynecologic disease in the United States: in-hospital use of opioid and non-opioid analgesics
AbstractTo compare the in-hospital opioid and non-opioid analgesic use among women who underwent robotic-assisted hysterectomy (RH) vs. open (OH), vaginal (VH), or laparoscopic hysterectomy (LH). Records of women in the United States who underwent hysterectomy for benign gynecologic disease were extracted from the Premier Healthcare Database (2013 –2019). Propensity score methods were used to create three 1:1 matched cohorts stratified in inpatients [RH vs. OH (N = 16,821 pairs), RH vs. VH (N = 6149), RH vs. LH (N = 11,250)] and outpatients [RH vs. OH (N = 3139), RH vs. VH (N = 29,954), RH vs. LH (N...

Intraoperative findings of duplicated Inferior Vena Cava during laparoscopic para-aortic lymphadenectomy
A 57-year-old patient with a diagnosis of ovarian clear cell carcinoma after bilateral adnexectomy underwent surgical staging at our gynecologic oncologic center. During laparoscopic para-aortic lymphadenectomy, we identified and exposed the double infrarenal vena cava (Edwards ’ Classification [1]), with the left inferior vena cava terminating in the left renal vein (Figure 1). No paracaval or interaortocaval lymph nodes were found on the left side. Surgery was performed without intraoperative or postoperative complications. Multimodal approach utilising a weight management programme prior to bariatric surgery in patients with BMI ≥50 kg/m2: A propensity score matching retrospective cohort study
SummaryWe evaluated preoperative weight loss and days from initial consult to surgery in patients with BMI ≥50 kg/m2 who were and were not enrolled in medical weight management (MWM) prior to laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. We retrospectively identified patients with BMI ≥50 kg/m2 who had primary sleeve gastrectomy between 2014 and 2019 at two bariatric surgery centres in our healthcare system. Patients presenting after 2017 that received preoperative MWM (n = 28) were compared to a historical cohort of non-MWM patients (n = 118) presenting prior to programme initiation in 2017 on preoperative percent tota...

Precision CT ‑guided marking with India ink and microcoils for laparoscopic resection of a lateral lymph node recurrence of rectal cancer: A case report
Oncol Lett. 2024 Apr 12;27(6):266. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14399. eCollection 2024 Jun.ABSTRACTAlthough rarely used in laparoscopic surgery, computed tomography (CT)-guided marking is useful for targeting small lesions. The present study describes the performance of laparoscopic resection with preoperative CT-guided marking for lateral lymph node recurrence of rectal cancer. A 48-year-old man underwent laparoscopic low anterior resection with D3 lymph node dissection for rectal cancer (postoperative diagnosis, stage IIIb). Postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy was then administered. Solitary lymph node recurrence was observed i...

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed by a surgical care practitioner: a review of outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: There is a paucity of published data on surgical outcomes of procedures performed by SCPs. With a structured, supervised approach, SCPs could be trained to take on more complex procedures and further strengthen the surgical workforce. This study demonstrates that elective LC can be safely performed by an appropriately trained and supervised SCP.PMID:38660827 | DOI:10.1308/rcsann.2023.0058 (Source: Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England)

Safety and efficacy of indocyanine green fluorescence imaging-guided laparoscopic para-aortic lymphadenectomy for left-sided colorectal cancer:A preliminary case-matched study
CONCLUSION: ICG fluorescence imaging could increase the retrieval of IMALN, PALN, and total lymph nodes, and potentially improve the completeness of laparoscopic PALN dissection in patients with left-sided CRC.PMID:38664189 | DOI:10.1016/j.asjsur.2024.04.027 (Source: Asian Journal of Surgery)

Implementation of the Intraoperative Surgically-set, Laparoscopically-view-controlled "Transversus Abdominis Plane" Block with Bupivacaine in Elective Laparoscopic Bowel Resections
Zentralbl Chir. 2024 Apr 25. doi: 10.1055/a-2294-3140.
