Equal short-term outcomes of intracorporeal mechanical gastrogastrostomy in laparoscopic pylorus-preserving gastrectomy for cT1N0 gastric cancer in the middle stomach compared with the extracorporeal hand-sewing method
ConclusionIMG is safe regarding ARCs compared with EHG. These results will encourage surgeons to introduce IMG for patients with early middle gastric cancer. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Pedunculated focal nodular hyperplasia of the liver in a healthy child born following in vitro fertilization: a case report and review of the literature
ConclusionDiagnosing focal nodular hyperplasia, especially pedunculated form can be challenging, although magnetic resonance imaging with scintigraphy is nearly 100% sensitive and specific. Thus, a biopsy may be needed to rule out malignancies in some cases. Deterministic treatment in patients with suspicious mass, remarkable growth of lesion in serial examination, and persistent symptoms, such as pain, is resection, which can be done open or laparoscopic. The Influence of Surgical Complexity and Center Experience on Postoperative Morbidity After Minimally Invasive Surgery in Gynecologic Oncology: Lessons Learned from the ROBOGYN-1004 Trial
CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that the center's experience may have an impact on the risk of morbidity for patients undergoing complex robot-assisted surgical procedures.PMID:38616209 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15265-1 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Objective assessment tools in laparoscopic or robotic ‐assisted gynecological surgery: A systematic review
ConclusionsExisting objective assessment tools lack evidence on predicting patient outcomes and suffer from limitations in transferability outside of the research environment, particularly for automated performance metrics. Future research should prioritize filling these gaps while integrating advanced technologies like kinematic data and AI for robust, objective surgical skill assessment within gynecological advanced surgical training programs. Single-port robotic-assisted laparoscopic synchronous surgery in pediatric patent processus vaginalis
Patent processus vaginalis (PPV) is usually observed in pediatric abdominal surgery; however, robotic single-port surgery in repairing processus vaginalis has not been reported in children. Herein, we present ... (Source: BMC Surgery)

DBH-YOLO: a surgical instrument detection method based on feature separation in laparoscopic surgery
ConclusionsIn this paper, the problem of inaccurate detection of surgical instruments is addressed from two different perspectives: classification and localization. And the experimental results on three representative datasets verify the performance of DBH-YOLO. It is shown that this method has a good generalization capability. A fatal misdiagnosis of page kidney – case report
AbstractPage kidney is a condition where external compression of the renal artery and renal parenchyma leads to subsequent ischaemia and activation of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone axis. A 42-year-old female with hirsutism, hypertension and diabetes was diagnosed with a right adrenal mass and underwent laparoscopic adrenalectomy. Her hypertension worsened postoperatively and was managed medically. Subsequently she developed a right flank pain on the fifth postoperative day and died suddenly the next day. Autopsy revealed a pale body with cushingoid appearance. Surgical scars were healthy. Internal examination of the abdome...

Laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy in the oldest old is safe: the race is run
ConclusionLVMR seems to be a safe operation for the “oldest old” patients with comorbidity, despite a single-centre, retrospective trial with limited follow-up. The present study suggests abandoning the dogma that “frail patients with rectal prolapse are not suitable for laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy.” (Source: Techniques in Coloproctology)

Does the presence of abdominal wall adhesions make gynecologic robotic surgery difficult?
This study aimed to assess the status of abdominal wall adhesions resulting from prior surgeries and their impact on the outcomes of robotic surgery. We retrospectively reviewed clinical information, surgical outcomes, and the status of abdominal wall adhesions in patients who underwent gynecologic robotic surgery at Yamanashi Central Hospital, between April 2018 and March 2023. Abdominal wall adhesions were classified into seven locations and their presence was assessed at each site. Among the 768 cases examined, 196 showed the presence of abdominal wall adhesions. Notably, patients with a history of abdominal surgery exh...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1496: Influence of Certification Program on Treatment Quality and Survival for Rectal Cancer Patients in Germany: Results of 13 Certified Centers in Collaboration with AN Institute
Conclusions: The results of the present study indicate an improvement in terms of the treatment quality and outcomes in certified CrCCs, which is enforced by certification-specific aspects such as a more differentiated surgical approach, a lower rate of certain postoperative complications, and a multidisciplinary approach. Further prospective clinical trials are necessary to investigate the influence of certification in the treatment of CRC patients. (Source: Cancers)

Predictive Value of Postoperative C-reactive Protein Ratio for Early Postoperative Complications After Laparoscopic Gastrectomy
CONCLUSIONS: The CRP ratio after LG can effectively predict postoperative complications that need treatment, and when the ratio is more than 2.2, digestive surgeons should pay attention to the possibility of serious complications.PMID:38607201 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)
