Pathophysiology and Clinical Implications of Ovarian Endometriomas
Obstet Gynecol. 2024 Apr 16. doi: 10.1097/AOG.0000000000005587. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOvarian endometriomas affect many patients with endometriosis and have significant effects on quality of life, fertility, and risk of malignancy. Endometriomas range from small (1-3 cm), densely fibrotic cysts to large (20 cm or greater) cysts with varying degrees of fibrosis. Endometriomas are hypothesized to form from endometriotic invasion or metaplasia of functional cysts or alternatively from ovarian surface endometriosis that bleeds into the ovarian cortex. Different mechanisms of endometrioma formation may help explain the ...

Comparative evaluation of blind supraglottic airway device insertion versus videolaryngoscope-guided technique in adults undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy
CONCLUSION: The videolaryngoscope-guided technique provided superior airway sealing and reduced malposition of Igel without an increase in adverse events compared to the blind technique. However, this was at the cost of increased time of device insertion.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: www.ctri.nic.in identifier is CTRI/2022/10/046269.PMID:38623726 | DOI:10.1080/17434440.2024.2343423 (Source: Expert Review of Medical Devices)

Measuring Small Bowel Length in Bariatric Surgery: An Ex Vivo Laparoscopic Training Experiment
CONCLUSIONS: With sufficient training, surgical residents' skills in measuring small bowel length improved when tested in an ex vivo model. Residents became more confident in their laparoscopic measurement skills. This ex vivo training model is a alternative and addition to on-site training.PMID:38626174 | DOI:10.1177/15533506241244854 (Source: Surgical Innovation)

vNOTES retroperitoneal sentinel lymph node dissection for endometrial cancer staging: First multicenter, prospective case series
ConclusionsThis prospective multicenter case series demonstrates the feasibility of the vNOTES approach for identifying and removing sentinel lymph nodes in women with endometrial carcinoma successfully and safely. vNOTES allows sole transvaginal access with exposure of the entire retroperitoneal space, following the natural lymph trajectory caudally to cranially, and without the need for a Trendelenburg position. End-colostomy parastomal hernia repair: a systematic review on laparoscopic and robotic approaches
ConclusionEnd-colostomy PSH surgical repair still represents a challenge for surgeons. Recent evidence has not shown a significant advantage in postoperative complications and recurrence with a specific repair among SB, KH, and sandwich technique. The paucity of data on robotic surgery does not allow to draw definitive conclusion. Further primary, multicentric, and larger cohort studies are needed. (Source: Hernia)

Laparoscopically harvested omental flap for immediate breast reconstruction: a retrospective single-center study of 300 cases
The laparoscopically harvested omental flap (LHOF) has been used in partial or total breast reconstruction, but most studies on LHOF were case reports or small case series. However, the clinical feasibility an... (Source: World Journal of Surgical Oncology)

A prospective case series to evaluate subcostal nerve injury with high-resolution ultrasound in posterior retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy
ConclusionIn this exporatory case series the incidence of postoperative damage to the subcostal nerve, both clinically and radiologically, was 60% after posterior retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy. There was no association with pain, and the spontaneous recovery rate was high.Graphical Abstract (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)
