Is 3D Volumetric Evaluation Consistent with Postoperative Renal Parenchymal Preservation in Open and Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy?
Conclusions: Our analysis showed that RALPN could be considered similar to OPN in terms of parenchymal volume preservation, but the rate of parenchymal volume preservation was not associated with the change in functional parameters. These results should be supported by further research.PMID:38629770 | DOI:10.1089/lap.2024.0092 (Source: Adv Data)

LapEmerge trial: study protocol for a laparoscopic approach for emergency colon resection —a multicenter, open label, randomized controlled trial
Due to faster recovery and lower morbidity rates, laparoscopy has become the gold standard in elective colorectal surgery for both the benign and malignant forms of the disease. A substantial proportion of col... (Source: Trials)

Comparison of peritoneal interposition flaps and sealants for prevention of lymphocele after robotic radical prostatectomy and pelvic lymph node dissection: a systematic review, meta-analysis, Bayesian network meta-analysis, and meta-regression
This study aimed to aggregate and analyze the available literature on different interventions which seek to prevent lymphocele through a Bayesian Network. A systematic review was performed to identify prospective studies evaluating strategies for lymphocele prevention after robot assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy  + pelvic lymph node dissection. Data was inputted into Review Manager 5.4 for pairwise meta-analysis. Data was then used to build a network in R Studio. These networks were used to model 200,000 Markov Chains via MonteCarlo sampling. The results are expressed as odds ratios (OR) with 95% credib le intervals...

Saliva-based microRNA diagnostic signature for the superficial peritoneal endometriosis phenotype
Patients with superficial peritoneal endometriosis (SPE) present with symptoms suggestive of endometriosis but clinical and imaging exams are inconclusive. Consequently, laparoscopy is usually necessary to confirm diagnosis. The present study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of microRNAs (miRNAs) to diagnose patients with SPE from the ENDOmiARN cohort (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)

Exploring 6  years of colorectal cancer surgery in rural Italy: insights from 648 consecutive patients unveiling successes and challenges
AbstractThe multidisciplinary management of patients suffering from colorectal cancer (CRC) has significantly increased survival over the decades and surgery remains the only potentially curative option for it. However, despite the implementation of minimally invasive surgery and ERAS pathway, the overall morbidity and mortality remain quite high, especially in rural populations because of urban  − rural disparities. The aim of the study is to analyze the characteristics and the surgical outcomes of a series of unselected CRC patients residing in two similar rural areas in Italy. A total of 648 consecutive patients o...

Three-dimensional Versus Two-dimensional Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
AbstractThree-dimensional (3D) laparoscopy has several advantages in gastrointestinal surgery. This systematic review determined whether similar benefits exist for bariatric surgical procedures by systematically searching the MEDLINE, Embase, and Scopus databases. Six studies including 629 patients who underwent 2D (386) and 3D (243) laparoscopic bariatric surgeries were selected. Operative time was significantly shorter in patients undergoing 3D laparoscopic gastric bypass (pooled standardized mean difference [SMD] 1.19, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.22-0.15). Similarly, a shorter hospital stay was detected both during s...

Pathophysiology and Clinical Implications of Ovarian Endometriomas
Obstet Gynecol. 2024 Apr 16. doi: 10.1097/AOG.0000000000005587. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOvarian endometriomas affect many patients with endometriosis and have significant effects on quality of life, fertility, and risk of malignancy. Endometriomas range from small (1-3 cm), densely fibrotic cysts to large (20 cm or greater) cysts with varying degrees of fibrosis. Endometriomas are hypothesized to form from endometriotic invasion or metaplasia of functional cysts or alternatively from ovarian surface endometriosis that bleeds into the ovarian cortex. Different mechanisms of endometrioma formation may help explain the ...

Measuring Small Bowel Length in Bariatric Surgery: An Ex Vivo Laparoscopic Training Experiment
CONCLUSIONS: With sufficient training, surgical residents' skills in measuring small bowel length improved when tested in an ex vivo model. Residents became more confident in their laparoscopic measurement skills. This ex vivo training model is a alternative and addition to on-site training.PMID:38626174 | DOI:10.1177/15533506241244854 (Source: Surgical Innovation)
