Analysis of Bacterial Culture of Fluid in the Surgical Area in Transanal Total Mesorectal Excision and Laparoscopic Total Mesorectal Excision
Conclusion: Positive bacterial culture of fluid during Lap-taTME indicates an increased risk of pelvic infection after operation. Lap-taTME is more prone to intraoperative contamination than Lap-TME but does not significantly increase the risk of postoperative pelvic infection.PMID:38634816 | DOI:10.1089/lap.2024.0104 (Source: Adv Data)

Regional practice variation in hysterectomy and the implementation of less invasive surgical procedures: A register ‐based study in the Netherlands
ConclusionsRegional variation exists in the rates of hysterectomy and minimally invasive techniques. The absence of a significant substitution effect provides no clear evidence that minimally invasive techniques have replaced hysterectomy in clinical practice. However, although the result was not significant, embolization could be an exception based on its stronger negative association. (Source: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica)

“Robot-assisted partial cystectomy for deep infiltrating endometriosis of the bladder with the Hugo RAS system”.
Involvement of the lower urinary tract is found in 0.2-2.5% of all deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE)1,2. The bladder is the most affected organ with a prevalence of up to 80% of cases3. Patients with bladder endometriosis are often symptomatic (dysuria, hyperactive bladder, recurrent urinary tract infections and hematuria). Surgery is the gold standard treatment for this condition when medical therapy fails1,2. Several studies have shown the feasibility, effectiveness, and safety of the laparoscopic approach4 but data about robotic-assisted approach are missing in literature. Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1552: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Laparoscopic versus Robotic-Assisted Surgery for Colon Cancer: Efficacy, Safety, and Outcomes & mdash;A Focus on Studies from 2020 & ndash;2024
Conclusions: The choice of surgical method should be individualized, considering factors such as surgeon expertise, medical facilities, and patient-specific considerations. Future research should aim to elucidate long-term outcomes to further guide the clinical decision-making. (Source: Cancers)
