Fate of small remnant pancreatic tail in splenic hilum after laparoscopic spleen preserving distal pancreatectomy: a retrospective study
CONCLUSION: In spleen preservation, leaving a small pancreatic tail inside the splenic hilum is feasible and more beneficial to the patient than performing splenectomy in anatomically challenging patients.PMID:38586554 | PMC:PMC10995840 | DOI:10.4174/astr.2024.106.4.211 (Source: Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research)

Comparison of totally laparoscopic and laparoscopic-assisted approach in gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy for advanced gastric cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy: a retrospective comparative study
CONCLUSION: For patients with locally advanced gastric cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, laparoscopic D2 gastrectomy can be considered as a safe and efficient alternative. A further multicenter prospective randomized controlled study is needed to elucidate the applicability of this technique for advanced gastric cancer.PMID:38586555 | PMC:PMC10995841 | DOI:10.4174/astr.2024.106.4.218 (Source: Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research)

Robotic-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy vs. laparoscopic and open partial nephrectomy: A single-site, two-surgeon, retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Although patients who underwent RALPN had longer WIT, they had similar rates of complications, required less total OR time, and had shorter procedure time and LOS compared with OPN and LPN despite similar RENAL score compared to OPN and greater score than LPN.PMID:38587976 | DOI:10.5489/cuaj.8585 (Source: Canadian Urological Association Journal)

Learning Curve of a Laparoscopic Pancreaticoduodenectomy Program at a Second Institution
CONCLUSIONS: The learning curve and average operative time of an SI laparoscopic PD program was shorter than the initial learning curve for a single surgeon with comparable outcomes. This suggests that complex minimally invasive surgical programs can be safely transferred to another high-volume institution without significant loss of progress.PMID:38587270 | DOI:10.1177/00031348241246163 (Source: The American Surgeon)

Technical Considerations in Laparoscopic-Assisted Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiography
Am Surg. 2024 Apr 8:31348241244651. doi: 10.1177/00031348241244651. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe use of endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERCP) for diagnostic and therapeutic interventions on the pancreaticobiliary system has steadily increased, but the standard approach through the oropharynx is prohibited after Roux-en-Y (RYGB) gastric bypass surgery. Laparoscopic access to the gastric remnant allows for the completion of ERCP using the standard side-viewing duodenoscope to facilitate the completion of standard and advanced endoscopic maneuvers. Here, we describe our experience with the technical aspects of saf...

Laparoscopic right colectomy: correct technique based on key anatomical principles
Minim Invasive Ther Allied Technol. 2024 Apr 8:1-13. doi: 10.1080/13645706.2024.2332880. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSince the early1990s, laparoscopic right colon resections have been the most performed advanced laparoscopic procedures just after laparoscopic left colectomies and sigmoid resections. Indications for laparoscopic right colectomies are either benign or malignant diseases. Despite its many indications, a laparoscopic right or extended right colectomy is mostly performed for cancer of the caecum, the ascending colon, the hepatic flexure or the proximal transverse colon. Worldwide, colorectal cancer is the th...
