Comparison of patient-reported quality of life and functional outcomes following laparoscopic and transanal total mesorectal excision of rectal cancer
CONCLUSION: The quality of life and functional outcomes were comparable between the laparoscopic and transanal approaches; however, our findings suggest a higher rate of LARS after TaTME.PMID:34235111 | PMC:PMC8255580 | DOI:10.4174/astr.2021.101.1.1 (Source: Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research)

Comparison of oncologic outcomes between patients with Lynch syndrome and sporadic microsatellite instability-high colorectal cancer
CONCLUSION: Our findings indicate that LS CRC is associated with poorer outcomes compared to sporadic CRC with MSI-H, presenting distinct clinical features. Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy using the LiVac liver retractor system: technical report
This study was conducted to evaluate the feasibility of the LiVac in LSG. We applied the LiVac in 20 patients who received LSG. The feasibility was assessed by exposure of the AOH, operation time, complications, and changes of aspartate transaminase and alanine transaminase. In all 20 patients, exposure of the AOH was successful. The mean operation time was 88 minutes. The changes in preoperative and postoperative aspartate transaminase and alanine transaminase levels were 18.6 and 9.1 U/L, respectively. There were no related morbidities. In LSG, exposure of the AOH using the LiVac was technically feasible.PMID:34235118 | ...

In view of the current lack of knowledge on genetic and molecular mechanisms, appropriate management taking into consideration the difficulty of identification of CRC with hypermutable tumors harboring heterogeneity is essential.PMID:34235112 | PMC:PMC8255576 | DOI:10.4174/astr.2021.101.1.13 (Source: Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research)

Association of mortality with drug-coated devices in femoropopliteal artery based on the nationwide data
CONCLUSION: Our real-world analysis showed that there was no evidence of increased all-cause mortality after femoropopliteal artery revascularization with drug-coated devices compared with non-drug-coated devices.PMID:34235113 | PMC:PMC8255583 | DOI:10.4174/astr.2021.101.1.20 (Source: Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research)

Risk factors for poor survival after recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma after liver transplantation
This study was designed to analyze the risk factors for poor survival after recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma after liver transplantation.METHODS: Patients who underwent liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma during the period of 2007 to 2018 were reviewed and patients who experienced recurrence were included. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard ratios were performed for potential risk factors for survival after recurrence.RESULTS: A total of 151 recipients experienced hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence after liver transplantation. The median of the recurrence-free period was 9.3 months (0.89-97.25 mont...

Fates of retained hepatic segment IV and its prognostic impact in adult split liver transplantation using an extended right liver graft
CONCLUSION: The amount of S4 ischemic necrosis is not a prognostic factor in adult SLT recipients, probably due to a sufficiently large GRWR.PMID:34235115 | PMC:PMC8255581 | DOI:10.4174/astr.2021.101.1.37 (Source: Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research)

Finding new indicators for operation and angiographic embolization in blunt renal injury patients: a single-center experience over 13 years
CONCLUSION: When a patient with traumatic kidney injury due to blunt trauma visits an emergency room, even when vital signs are stable, Gerota's fascia should be checked by computed tomography prior to deciding on surgical treatment, and angiographic embolization should be considered if perinephric hematoma rim distance exceeds 2.97 cm.PMID:34235116 | PMC:PMC8255582 | DOI:10.4174/astr.2021.101.1.49 (Source: Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research)

Efficacy and safety of autologous adipose tissue-derived stem cell therapy for children with refractory Crohn's complex fistula: a Phase IV clinical study
CONCLUSION: ASC therapy is a simple and well-tolerated therapeutic option for children with refractory Crohn's complex fistulae. Complete closure was well-sustained. However, more data from a larger number of patients are needed.PMID:34235117 | PMC:PMC8255577 | DOI:10.4174/astr.2021.101.1.58 (Source: Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research)
