Extent of thyroid surgery for clinically node-negative papillary thyroid carcinoma with confirmed nodal metastases after prophylactic central neck dissection: a 15-year experience in a single center.
Conclusion: Our study showed low recurrence rates in patients with cN0 PTC pathologically confirmed as N1a after PCND. The RFS did not differ according to the extent of thyroid surgery. Considering the low recurrence rate and the surgical morbidity associated with thyroid surgery, less than TT with PCND may be considered for patients with cN0 unilateral PTC even with a pathologic staging of N1a after PCND. Comparison of outcome between liver resection, radiofrequency ablation, and transarterial therapy for multiple small hepatocellular carcinoma within the Milan criteria.
The objective of this study was to determine whether resection could provide better long-term outcome for patients with multiple hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) within Milan criteria. Methods: A total of 276 patients with multiple HCCs within Milan criteria with liver function preserved who underwent resection, radiofrequency ablation (RFA), or transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) between 2009 and 2013 were analyzed. Propensity-score (PS) matching was conducted. Results: Five-year overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) were better in the resection group than that in the RFA or TACE group. Medicolegal implications from litigations involving necrotizing fasciitis.
Conclusion: These litigation cases imply that physicians cannot be blamed for the failure to prevent NF. The timely recognition and management of NF might be considered as one of the main factors for deciding malpractice in court. Therefore, surgeons, especially in the department of colorectal surgery, should pay attention to changes in the patient's status after surgery. Surgeons need to learn from medical accidents, as it is important for risk management, preventing the occurrence of similar cases, and improving the quality of healthcare services. We report the medicolegal implications from medical lawsuits involving NF....

Surgical skin adhesive bond is safe and feasible wound closure method to reduce surgical site infection following minimally invasive colorectal cancer surgery.
Authors: Lee CS, Han SR, Kye BH, Bae JH, Koh W, Lee IK, Lee DS, Lee YS Abstract Purpose: Minimally invasive colorectal surgery had reduced the rate of surgical site infection. The use of surgical skin adhesive bond (2-octyl cyanoacrylate) for wound closure reduces postoperative pain and provides better cosmetic effect compared to conventional sutures or staples. But role of surgical skin adhesive bond for reducing surgical site infection is unclear. Our objective in this study was to evaluate the role of surgical skin adhesive bond in reducing surgical site infection following minimally invasive colorectal surgery....

Alpha-fetoprotein is correlated with intrahepatic recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma after a hepatectomy.
Conclusion: The intrahepatic recurrence rates were high in the group preop α-FP over 100 ng/mL. Close observation is needed. Prospective study for α-FP genes of HCC patients should be planned for predicting intrahepatic recurrence after hepatectomy.
