68Ga-FAPI-04 positron emission tomography/CT and laparoscopy for the diagnosis of occult peritoneal metastasis in newly diagnosed locally advanced gastric cancer: study protocol of a single-centre prospective cohort study
Introduction Accurate baseline clinical staging is critical to inform treatment decision-making for patients with gastric cancers. Peritoneal metastasis (PM) is the most common form of metastasis in gastric cancer and mainly diagnosed by diagnostic laparoscopy and peritoneal lavage evaluation. However, diagnostic laparoscopy is invasive and less cost-effective. It is urgent to develop a safe, fast and non-invasive functional imaging method to verify the peritoneal metastasis of gastric cancer. The aim of our study was to evaluate the proportion of patients in whom 68Ga-FAPI-04 positron emission tomography/CT (PET/CT) led t...

Indocyanine green (ICG)-guided robotic resection for liver adenoma: combined technologies for precision surgery
AbstractHCA resection is crucial to prevent bleeding and malignant transformation. The aim of this study was to enhance the precision of tumor resection in hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) through the combination of intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS) and indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging. ICG was intravenously injected 24  h before surgery, enabling positive staining of HCA nodules. IOUS guided the parenchymal transection performed using the RoboLap approach. IOUS combined with ICG effectively demarcated lesions, allowing precision surgery while sparing healthy liver tissue. Intraoperative frozen examination further ...

The incidences of nausea and vomiting after general anesthesia with remimazolam versus sevoflurane: a prospective randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: Compared to sevoflurane, opting for remimazolam as an intraoperative hypnotic may decrease the incidence of PONV and reduce antiemetic use for 24 h after laparoscopic surgery.PMID:38637272 | DOI:10.4097/kja.23939 (Source: Korean Journal of Anesthesiology)

Gallbladder cancer: surgical treatment, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy
Postgrad Med. 2024 Apr 23:1-14. doi: 10.1080/00325481.2024.2345585. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGallbladder cancer is a common type of biliary tract tumor. Optimal management for early stage cases typically involves radical excision as the primary treatment modality. Various surgical techniques, including laparoscopic, robotic, and navigational surgery, have demonstrated favorable clinical outcomes in radical gallbladder excision. Unfortunately, most patients are ineligible for surgical intervention because of the advanced stage of the disease upon diagnosis. Consequently, non-surgical interventions, such as chemotherapy...

The Impact of Redosing Antibiotics for Pediatric Patients Undergoing Appendectomy for Complicated Appendicitis
Am Surg. 2024 Apr 18:31348241248815. doi: 10.1177/00031348241248815. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCurrently, there is no universally accepted, standardized protocol for pre-operative antibiotic administration in the setting of appendectomy for complicated appendicitis among pediatric patients. Strategies to mitigate surgical site infections (SSIs) must be balanced with optimal antibiotic use and exposure. We conducted a retrospective chart review to compare outcomes between patients treated pre-operatively with a single pre-operative dose of antibiotics with those who received additional antibiotics prior to laparoscopic ...
