Letter to the Editor: Craniopharyngiomas in the elderly: the crucial influence of tumor topography on surgical risk assessment
Classifying CPs within the overly vague, uninformative category “suprasellar” prevents gaining any true insight regarding the risks associated with the surgical procedure employed. Routine MRI obtained with conventional T1- and T2-weighted sequences along the midsagittal and coronal trans-infundibular planes allow an accurate and reliable preoperative defini tion of CP topography. CPs developing primarily within the infundibulum and/or tuberal region of the hypothalamus, as well as those wholly located within the 3V, should be distinguished preoperatively from those lesions originally expanding beneath the 3V floor (3V...

The crosstalk between melatonin and sex steroid hormones
Melatonin, an indolamine mainly released from the pineal gland, is associated with many biological functions namely the modulation of circadian and seasonal rhythms, sleep inducer, regulator of energy metabolism, antioxidant and anticarcinogenic. Although several evidences also recognize the influence of melatonin in the reproductive physiology, the crosstalk between melatonin and sex hormones is not clear. Here, we review the effects of sex differences in the circulating levels of melatonin and update the current knowledge on the link between sex hormones and melatonin. Furthermore, we explore the effects of melatonin on ...

Effect of GHS-R deletion on growth, pulsatile GH secretion and meal pattern in male and female mice
Conclusion. These results point to a sex-dependent dimorphic effect of GHS-R1a signaling to modulate pulsatile GH secretion and meal pattern in mice with different compensatory mechanisms occuring in the hypothalamus of adult males and females after GHS-R1a deletion. Altogether, we show that GHS-R1a signaling plays a more critical role in the regulation of pulsatile GH secretion during adolescence in males and adulthood in females. (Source: Neuroendocrinology)

The state of PRRT and its sequencing amongst current therapeutic options for gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors
Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) are the most common form of neuroendocrine neoplasia, but there is no current consensus for the sequencing of approved therapies, particularly with respect to peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT). This comprehensive review evaluates the data supporting approved therapies for GEP-NETs and recommendations for therapeutic sequencing with a focus on how PRRT currently fits within sequencing algorithms. The current recommendations for PRRT sequencing restrict its use to metastatic, inoperable, progressive midgut NETs, however, this may change with emerging data to ...

Early pulse glucocorticoid therapy and improved hormonal outcomes in primary hypophysitis.
Conclusion: In a PH subtype-predominant PAH cohort, a standardized high-dose glucocorticoid regimen resulted in higher overall and complete AP hormonal recovery than COG. Initiation of glucocorticoids in the early disease course may have been contributory. (Source: Neuroendocrinology)
