Binary organic nanoparticles with enhanced reactive oxygen species generation capability for photodynamic therapy
In this study, we report a strategy to overwhelm the ACQ of porphyrin by doping it with a type of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) luminogen to produce a binary NPs with high biocompatibility, and enhanced fluorescence and ROS generation capability. Such NPs can be readily synthesized by mixing a porphyrin derivative, Ce6 with a typical AIE luminogen, TPE-Br. Here, our experimental results have demonstrated the feasibility and effectiveness of this strategy, endowing it a great potential in clinical applications. Release characteristics of different diameter ultrafine fibers as antibacterial materials
Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences,Volume 14, Issue 02, March 2021. Although the electrospinning technique has been devoted to promoting therapeutic purposes as a drug carrier, however, there are still many fundamental problems in this area. This work focuses on a comparison of various diameter polyethersulfone (PES) electrospun ultrafine fibers as antimicrobial materials. The fibrous morphology, antimicrobial agent distribution, thermally property, and biocompatibility evaluation of PES-based ultrafine fibers were systematically investigated. The results demonstrated that the PES-based ultrafine fibers were sui...

Optical penetration of surface-enhanced micro-scale spatial offset Raman spectroscopy in turbid gel and biological tissue
Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences, Ahead of Print. The limited penetration of photons in biological tissue restricts the deep-tissue detection and imaging application. The micro-scale spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (micro-SORS) with an optical fiber probe, colleting photons from deeper regions by offsetting the position of laser excitation from the collection optics in a range of hundreds of microns, shows great potential to be integrated with endoscopy for inside-body noninvasive detection by circumventing this restriction, particularly with the combination of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). H...

Simulation of stimulated Raman scattering signal generation in scattering tissues excited by Bessel beams
Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences, Ahead of Print. Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy has the ability of noninvasive imaging of specific chemical bonds and been increasingly used in biomedicine in recent years. Two pulsed Gaussian beams are used in traditional SRS microscopes, providing with high lateral and axial spatial resolution. Because of the tight focus of the Gaussian beam, such an SRS microscopy is difficult to be used for imaging deep targets in scattering tissues. The SRS microscopy based on Bessel beams can solve the imaging problem to a certain extent. Here, we establish a theoretical mod...

Automated retinal layer segmentation on optical coherence tomography image by combination of structure interpolation and lateral mean filtering
Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences,Volume 14, Issue 01, January 2021. Segmentation of layers in retinal images obtained by optical coherence tomography (OCT) has become an important clinical tool to diagnose ophthalmic diseases. However, due to the susceptibility to speckle noise and shadow of blood vessels etc., the layer segmentation technology based on a single image still fail to reach a satisfactory level. We propose a combination method of structure interpolation and lateral mean filtering (SI-LMF) to improve the signal-to-noise ratio based on one retinal image. Before performing one-dimensional lateral me...
