Labor induction at 41+0 gestational weeks or expectant management for the nulliparous woman: The Finnish randomized controlled multicenter trial
ConclusionsOffering labor induction to nulliparous women at 41+0 gestational weeks may decrease the probability of operative delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, and neonatal weight ≥4000 g. However, this study was underpowered to affirm the trends of rising rates of CS and adverse neonatal outcomes in the expectant management group. Thus, expectant management could remain an option for some, as one in two women with expectant management had a spontaneous onset of labor. (Source: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica)

Regulation of oxytocin-induced calcium transients and gene expression in engineered myometrial tissues by tissue architecture and matrix rigidity
In this study, we engineered healthy-like and fibrotic-like myometrium by culturing human myometrial smooth muscle cells on polyacrylamide hydrogels micropatterned with fibronectin to independently tune matrix rigidity and tissue alignment, respectively. We then evaluated calcium transients in response to oxytocin stimulation. Isotropic myometrial tissues on stiff substrates (representing fibrotic myometrium) had shorter calcium transients due to shorter decay time compared to aligned myometrial tissues on soft substrates (representing healthy myometrium). Calcium transients in aligned tissues had longer response times and...

Assessment of different sonographic cervical measures to predict labor induction outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Fetal head-perineum distance was the most effective predictor for successful IOL compared to cervical length, which only had a moderate predictive ability. Shortening of cervical length was not a useful indicator for successful IOL. On the other hand, the posterior cervical angle was the most reliable factor for predicting failed induction. The study's findings can aid in developing more effective management strategies for IOL.PMID:38106269 | PMC:PMC10722025 | DOI:10.21037/qims-23-507 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Maternal and fetal outcomes among women with GDMA1 before and post-date
CONCLUSION: No significant increase in adverse pregnancy outcomes at term post-date pregnancies complicated with GDMA1 was demonstrated. Furthermore, there was no increase in the rate of CD with the increase in gestational age until 41 weeks of gestation.PMID:38104393 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2023.12.013 (Source: Reproductive Biology)

Effect of Oral Mifepristone on Modified Bishop ’s Score in Term Pregnancy
ConclusionIn our study, we found that mifepristone is a safe and effective cervical ripening agent in term pregnancy with unfavorable cervix. It is well tolerated and leads to significant cervical ripening with improvement in Bishop ’s score favoring vaginal delivery. (Source: The Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology of India)
