1015 The Effect of latent-phase duration on pregnancy outcomes in nulliparas undergoing induction of labor: Meta-analysis
Failed induction of labor (IOL) is defined as failure to deliver or achieve active labor after an adequate period of oxytocin and rupture of membrane (ROM). Previous studies showed an association between adverse maternal outcomes and longer duration of oxytocin and rupture of membranes (ROM). However, neonatal outcomes were not well-described. We sought to perform a meta-analysis of studies that evaluated outcomes according to the duration of oxytocin and ROM. (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

1020 The four critical components of an induction of labor protocol to reduce cesarean delivery
Standardized protocols for management of labor induction (IOL) may reduce cesarean delivery (CD). However, it is unclear if there is a specific threshold of adherence to protocol components or if specific components themselves are associated with reduced CD. 1084 Physician and Hospital Characteristics Associated with Vaginal Delivery in Nulliparous Patients Receiving Magnesium Sulfate
Magnesium sulfate administration for preeclampsia with severe features during labor induction has been associated with increased risk of cesarean delivery (CD). We aim to evaluate provider and hospital associations with successful vaginal delivery (VD) in nulliparous patients undergoing labor induction while receiving magnesium sulfate. 1096 The HOME INDUCTION Randomized Controlled Trial – Logistics for achieving delivery
The ARRIVE Trial has resulted in an increased demand for 39 week induction of labour (IOL) in normal-risk nulliparous patients, but this creates significant logistical challenges for already busy Labor Wards. A potential solution is commencing induction by means of outpatient cervical ripening at home (H-IOL), using vaginal prostaglandin (Propess/Cervidil) or osmotic cervical dilator (Dilapan-S). This secondary analysis evaluates the logistics of achieving vaginal delivery, including time taken and need for additional ripening modality. (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

1161 Prostaglandin administration and cesarean for non-reassuring fetal status in preterm induction of labor
The primary objective was to estimate the association between prostaglandin administration in preterm labor induction and cesarean for non-reassuring fetal status. An a priori secondary aim was to assess this association in the subgroup of preterm patients with fetal growth restriction (FGR). (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Repeated intratracheal instillation of whole-cigarette smoke condensate to assess lung damage in a rat model
Environ Toxicol. 2023 Dec 26. doi: 10.1002/tox.24113. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCigarette smoke induces an inflammatory response in the lungs by recruiting inflammatory cells, leading to lung diseases such as lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and pulmonary fibrosis. Existing inhalation exposure methods for assessing the adverse effects of cigarette smoke require expensive equipment and are labor-intensive. Therefore, we attempted to develop a novel method to assess these adverse effects using intratracheal instillation (ITI) of whole cigarette smoke condensate (WCSC). The WCSC (0, 5, 10, or 20 mg/mL) ...

COVID-stasis of Pregnancy: An Increased Prevalence of COVID-19 in Patients with Cholestasis
Conclusion In this single-site retrospective cohort study, we demonstrated an increased prevalence of COVID-19 in those with ICP in general and among Hispanic patients specifically. Despite this difference, there was no increased risk of adverse fetal outcomes. Labor induction at 41+0 gestational weeks or expectant management for the nulliparous woman: The Finnish randomized controlled multicenter trial
ConclusionsOffering labor induction to nulliparous women at 41+0 gestational weeks may decrease the probability of operative delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, and neonatal weight ≥4000 g. However, this study was underpowered to affirm the trends of rising rates of CS and adverse neonatal outcomes in the expectant management group. Thus, expectant management could remain an option for some, as one in two women with expectant management had a spontaneous onset of labor. (Source: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica)

Regulation of oxytocin-induced calcium transients and gene expression in engineered myometrial tissues by tissue architecture and matrix rigidity
In this study, we engineered healthy-like and fibrotic-like myometrium by culturing human myometrial smooth muscle cells on polyacrylamide hydrogels micropatterned with fibronectin to independently tune matrix rigidity and tissue alignment, respectively. We then evaluated calcium transients in response to oxytocin stimulation. Isotropic myometrial tissues on stiff substrates (representing fibrotic myometrium) had shorter calcium transients due to shorter decay time compared to aligned myometrial tissues on soft substrates (representing healthy myometrium). Calcium transients in aligned tissues had longer response times and...
