What are the economic costs of a poor work environment?
At the Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health, it is our fundamental conviction that workers’ health is a value in itself. To put it simply, work must not be health-hazardous, and work must not make the worker neither physically nor mentally sick. In our minds, there is no need for any further rationale for healthy and safe work. That said, it would be naïve to think that, in a bottom-line world, the bottom-line would not count with regard to work and health. It does count at individual, company, and societal level. At individual level, a worker may worry about reduced payment during sickness absence. At co...

Effect of epidural analgesia on cervical ripening using dinoprostone vaginal inserts
ConclusionEpidural analgesia as labor relaxant adversely affected the progression of uterine cervical ripening when dinoprostone vaginal inserts were used, whereas it did not affect cervical ripening when a mechanical cervical dilatation balloon was used. The present results are significant for choosing the appropriate ripening method. (Source: Journal of Anesthesia)

Differences in Indications for Delivery Based on COVID-19 Infections Status Among an Underserved Pregnant Cohort: A Prospective Cohort Study
There is limited information regarding effects of COVID-19 infection status on obstetric interventions, including cesarean delivery (CD) and induction of labor (IOL). Earlier studies cite increased rates of CD and IOL among COVID-positive gravidae, with unclear indications, suggesting influence from COVID-19 positivity. We aimed to investigate differences in indications for primary CD and IOL in gravidae by COVID-19 status. (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Stress hormones to bishop score ratio and induction to delivery time interval
Introduction and aims of the study: Some clinical studies have shown that the combination of mechanical and pharmacologic methods may have benefits in labour induction(LI) process over the use of a single method without increasing the risk of obstetric or perinatal outcomes.  The Cortisol/Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate(DHEA-S) ratio is considered a measure of chronic stress, which affects the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal(HPA) axis. The aim of the study was to find out if the hormonal ratio has an impact on the induction to delivery time interval. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)

Labour induction with misoprostol: How do BMI and gestational weight gain influence the outcome?
Introduction and aimsof the study: The surfacing evidence in favour of elective labour induction (LI) at 39 weeks-gestation is accompanied by concerns about its effectiveness in obese women. Current evidence suggests a positive correlation between obesity and failed LI, and between excessive gestational weight gain (GWG) and cesarean after LI. Are expectant mothers sufficiently involved in the decision-making process regarding induction of labour? A European survey
This study evaluated women ’s experience with IoL prior to giving birth, focussing on their interaction with healthcare professionals, the level of knowledge they had before IoL and the kind of information they received. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)

Foley catheter for labour induction among patients with premature rapture of membranes – a randomized controlled trial
Background: Prelabor rupture of membranes (PROM) occurs in 8-10% of pregnancies. Studies have demonstrated that the risk of maternal sepsis and neonatal infection secondary to chorioamnionitis increases with duration of PROM. According to available researches early birth for PROM at term can be the intervention reducing maternal and neonatal infections. In case of an unfavourable cervix, the use of mechanical methods like Foley catheter for cervix ripening demonstrates good effectiveness and safety. Ultrasound assessment of fetal head-perineum distance and cervical length to predict the success of labour induction
Introduction and aims of the study: Induction of labour (IOL) is one of the most frequent obstetric procedures. Successful IOL results in a vaginal delivery, either spontaneous or operative. The Bishop score remains a gold standard for assessing suitability for IOL and ultrasound measurements may be added to the list. The study aims to evaluate ultrasound measurements of fetal head-perineum distance and cervical length as predictive factors for the success of IOL. Cervical sonoelastography as a tool for prediction of success of labour induction at term
Introduction and Aims of the Study: The frequency of induction of labour (IOL) is rising in obstetrical practice. Specialists search for objective and reliable methods to predict success of IOL. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)

Induction of labour at mater dei hospital, Malta (re-audit)
Introduction and Aims of the Study: Induction of labour (IOL) is the artificial initiation of labour. It is indicated when the benefits of delivering the fetoplacental unit outweigh the benefits of continuing the pregnancy. Labour induction treatment guidelines across Europe: A review
Introduction and aims: European labour induction standards are poorly understood. We therefore reviewed the most recent induction of labour (IOL) guidelines in several European countries to assess their recommendations on pharmacological first-line interventions. Induction of labour: creation of a classification of Grenoble allowing an assessment of the evaluation of practices
Background: Induction of labour, a very common obstetric procedure, affects about one in five pregnant women in most developed countries. Induction of labour is medically indicated, is subject to risks and additional costs, and is often poorly experienced by patients. The practices concerning induction vary widely from centre to centre and therefore need to be evaluated. Our aim was to develop a tool for evaluating induction of labour which would facilitate geographical and temporal comparisons.
