Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 8681: The Common Bean Small Heat Shock Protein Nodulin 22 from Phaseolus vulgaris L. Assembles into Functional High-Molecular-Weight Oligomers
az-Camino Small heat shock proteins (sHsps) are present in all domains of life. These proteins are responsible for binding unfolded proteins to prevent their aggregation. sHsps form dynamic oligomers of different sizes and constitute transient reservoirs for folding competent proteins that are subsequently refolded by ATP-dependent chaperone systems. In plants, the sHsp family is rather diverse and has been associated with the ability of plants to survive diverse environmental stresses. Nodulin 22 (PvNod22) is an sHsp of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) located in the endoplasmic reticulum. This protein is expr...

Genes, Vol. 13, Pages 2297: Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) of White Mold Resistance in Snap Bean
R. Myers White mold can result in snap bean yield losses of 90 to 100% when field conditions favor the pathogen. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) was conducted to detect loci significantly associated with white mold resistance in a panel of snap bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars. Two populations of snap bean were used in this study. The first population was the BeanCAP (Coordinated Agriculture Project) Snap Bean Diversity Panel (SBDP) (n = 136), and the second population was the Snap Bean Association Panel (SnAP) (n = 378). SBDP was evaluated for white mold reaction in the field in 2012 and 2013, and SnAP w...

The role of tetradecane in the identification of host plants by the mirid bugs Apolygus lucorum and Adelphocoris suturalis and potential application in pest management
The mirid bugs Apolygus lucorum and Adelphocoris suturalis are considered serious pests of many crops in China, the host plant recognition of these pests remains unclear. The current study investigated the vital odor cues of two mirid bugs and evaluated the role of olfactory recognition in host recognition. The GC-EAD response of mirid bugs to volatiles of their host plant Phaseolus vulgaris was tested. Tetradecane, 2-propyl-1-pentanol, and dodecanal elicited strong EAG responses by mirid bugs and were tested with field experiments. The results indicated tetradecane was significantly more attractive than other attractants,...

Wet fermentation of Coffea canephora by lactic acid bacteria and yeasts using the self-induced anaerobic fermentation (SIAF) method enhances the coffee quality
Food Microbiol. 2023 Apr;110:104161. doi: 10.1016/j.fm.2022.104161. Epub 2022 Oct 13.ABSTRACTThis work aimed to evaluate the impact of inoculation single and co-cultivation of LAB and yeasts during the wet process of Coffea canephora using the self-induced anaerobic fermentation method. Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Totulaspora delbrueckii delbrueckii, Leuconostoc mesenteroides, and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum were monitored during fermentation. L. mesenteroides was detected in high concentrations in the coffee fruits (8.54 log10 cells/mL) and remained until the end of fermentation. Lactic and acetic acids were the main acid...
