Gestational Age-Dependent Reference Ranges for Albumin Levels in Cord Serum
CONCLUSIONS: We established GA-dependent reference ranges for serum albumin levels, which may be useful to accurately diagnose hypoalbuminemia in newborns.PMID:35294949 | DOI:10.1159/000522502 (Source: Neonatology)

Significant neonatal intraoperative cerebral and renal oxygen desaturation identified with near-infrared spectroscopy
ConclusionsNIRS is a non-invasive technique for monitoring rSO2 as an indicator of intraoperative stress and vascular perfusion. PD was so significant in neonates that intraoperative NIRS is highly recommended during thoracoscopy and procedures requiring visceral manipulation. (Source: Pediatric Surgery International)

415 Antenatal diagnosis and management of the abdominal wall defects related to the umbilical ring. Case series and review of the literature
Introduction: The two most common defects related to the umbilical ring are gastroschisis and omphalocele. Both with a prevalence of about 3/10,000 births. Prenatal ultrasound has a high sensitivity already at the first-trimester prenatal scan. Lately gastroschisis received more attention due to increased incidence, advances in perinatal diagnosis as well as surgical treatment. Omphalocele, unlike gastroschisis, is associated with increased mortality. It is often accompanied by chromosomal aberrations (30%), birth defects of the heart, kidneys, CNS, and gastrointestinal tract. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynec...

53 Impact of terms of patients ’ primary referral to the tertiary center on perinatal management in cases of conditionally non-lethal congenital anomalies
Objective: Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), omphalocele and gastroschisis are conditionally non-lethal congenital anomalies, which have high rate of associated structural and chromosomal pathology, variable anatomical/clinical features. This results in variable perinatal outcomes. Early referral to the tertiary center of fetal medicine allows timely complex prenatal evaluation and more options of pregnancy management in severe cases. We aimed to analyze terms of primary referral of pregnant women to department of fetal medicine in cases of CDH, omphalocele and gastroschisis in the fetus, to establish perinatal manage...

52. Prenatal evaluation of lethal and non-lethal congenital anomalies with new indices and multidisciplinary decision-making
Objective: Congenital anomalies (CA) which require urgent surgical correction in neonates (congenital diaphragmatic hernia, CDH; gastroschisis, GS) have various anatomical/clinical features and high mortality. We aimed to investigate role of standardized approach for prenatal evaluation and prognosis assessment. Study design: Retrospective and prospective hospital cohorts (2002 –2007, 2008–2013, 2014–2019) with review of pregnant women and neonates’ medical records, prenatal ultrasound reports and cytogenetic analyses. Outcome and management in neonates with gastroschisis in the third millennium —a single-centre observational study
Conclusion: Management of gastroschisis according to our protocol was successful with a high survival rate, no deaths in neonates born after 2005, and favourable results in LOS, duration on PN, and time on mechanical ventilation compared to other reports. Multicentre registry with long-term follow-up is required to establish the best management of gastroschisis. What is Known:• Gastroschisis is one of the most common congenital malformations in paediatric surgery with increasing incidence.• There is no consensus among clinicians regarding the optimal management of gastroschisis. What is New:• Although primary closure w...

Gastroschisis Prognostic Score Successfully Identifies Brazilian Newborns with High-Risk Gastroschisis
Gastroschisis is a congenital defect of the abdominal wall that occurs with an incidence of one in 4,000 live births [1]. This defect allows the herniation of abdominal viscera into the amniotic cavity. The exposure of these contents to the amniotic fluid can result in variable degrees of intestinal inflammation and injury [2]. These features include bowel matting, edema, friability, dilation, necrosis, and perforation, [3] all of which contribute to intestinal dysmotility and prolonged hospital length of stay [4]. Body Composition of Infants With Congenital Gastroschisis
Infants born with congenital gastroschisis are at risk for intrauterine growth restriction, small for gestational size at birth, and growth failure during the newborn period despite advanced care. Body composition provides a more complete picture of proportional growth than weight and length alone. Fat-free mass (FFM) represents organ growth, and in preterm infants without gastroschisis, improved FFM deposition is associated with improved neurodevelopmental outcomes. There is limited literature regarding the body composition of infants with gastroschisis. This case series describes the body composition of 10 infants with g...
