Most affordable schools?
Hey everyone, Just wondering what are some of the most "affordable" schools for an MPH. I'm an international student, so funding is extremely limited unfortunately, so I was wondering what are some of the programs that don't cost as much but are also ranked favorably. Are schools in California somewhat cheaper? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ucla mstp
I realize that US News Rankings are not the greatest/fairest way to compare schools, but should drastic changes in ranking be taken as a red flag? I'm specifically curious about UCLA's drop from 6th to 21st this year. Is this just a fluke, or is there something behind the scenes that may have caused this drop? Is this in any way indicative of the program's trajectory? Are there any changes to their NIH MSTP funding? Any insight is much appreciated! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How does DO student get funding for conference and publication cost?
I heard many MD schools will reimburse their student for the conference and publication-related cost but at least my school is not willing to pay me a single penny. How do you guys pay for these activities? I have collaboration with the lab I worked in before med school, they are broke now although I am still pumping papers with them using old data but the boss won't pay anything. Also have an independent project that got accepted for a national conference presentation, how can I get travel... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Northwestern vs. Pitt vs. UIC
Pitt (COA $355) Pros Very strong research institution, lots of funding opportunities (which I have not seen at any other school) Non-trad friendly school (based on MSAR and class groupme) Pittsburgh (seems like a cool city, and a change of scenery could be nice for this new life phase Vibe I get from current students and potential future classmates UPMC is a top hospital system and seems to dominate western PA allowing for ample shadowing/rotation opportunities... Am I foolish to be getting my hopes up for an F30 after a "Not Discussed" A0 submission?
I'm re-submitting my F30 today. I'm at a non-MSTP school, and this would mean funding for my final years of med school. It would mean financial stability in my post-MD career and the freedom to pursue research, even at a lower salary, instead of having to go straight to clinical jobs to pay off loans. I also think I've built it up in my head to be some sort of measure of whether or not I'm even worthy of being here, especially after all my MSTP rejections. My first submission went "Not... Dartmouth vs Brown vs BU
Dartmouth: Pros: - Really loved the school, hospital, faculty, and students when I interviewed there - Ivy league reputation - Small class size Cons: -New Hampshire Winters/Isolation - Price - Not as big of a research university as BU - Students seemed concerned about funding for the school Brown: Pros: - slightly better match list (?) - like the curriculum more - Scholarly project - better vibes, admin seems very supportive and student body close knit Cons - Lower... How much did your school get in Covid relief funding?
Search to find how much funding your college or university will receive in the new round of COVID-19 funding This searchable database shows how much public, private nonprofit and for-profit institutions are set to receive, as well as how much of that money must go to financial aid grants for students. www.insidehighered.com This had relevance to MDs too, but since they have undergrads etc, it’s kind of harder to see how much they’re getting screwed compared to us. Enjoy! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Have any of you completed two separate residencies?
Are there any physicians who have completed two separate residencies either because you didn't like the first or liked both and wanted to be double boarded? Which two? Was it hard to get into the second one (even if less competitive, because of funding or so much time elapsed since graduation)? For those that did, what did you end up doing- the second? mix of both--is that even possible ? or something else? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MSTP Grant Scores
An adcom told me their school received a perfect score on their grant renewal for their MSTP. As an applicant--and for future applicants--I'm curious: are MSTP scores available publicly? Is there a nice document that breaks down this information? It would be really awesome to see trends over the past few decades of how programs have evolved and grown, and if there were deficiencies (e.g. I heard Harvard/MIT had their funding frozen for a bit before they fixed supporting their students), how... How do you handle being out of the lab between PhD and residency?
Given the increasing rate of change in most basic science areas, I am a bit surprised that anyone can come back to research after 4+ years away from the lab. I suppose you can keep up with literature by regularly reading papers, but that is only a small part of being a productive researcher. Beyond specialties where residency may be more well aligned with certain research directions, I'm a bit surprised that MD/PhDs are able to come back to research and compete with PhDs for funding. If any... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

529 account for yourself?
Hello, Wondering if anyone has considered, since the recent rule change, creating a 529 account and funding it to make additional payments onto your own student loans? It looks like you can take a max of 10k lifetime from a 529 and apply it to student loan debt. It seems like a logical thing to do to save a few bucks, but wondering if anyone on here spots some glaringly obvious problem with it? Thanks in advance! (Source: Student Doctor Network)
