Multiple introductions of monkeypox virus to Ireland during the international mpox outbreak, May 2022 to October 2023
ConclusionWe provide insights into the international transmission dynamics supporting multiple introductions of MPXV into Ireland. Such information supported the implementation of evidence-informed public health control measures.PMID:38639093 | PMC:PMC11027473 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2024.29.16.2300505 (Source: Euro Surveill)

Sexually Transmitted Infections in the Emergency Department
Emerg Med Clin North Am. 2024 May;42(2):335-368. doi: 10.1016/j.emc.2024.02.006.ABSTRACTAs the United States faces a worsening epidemic of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), emergency departments (EDs) play a critical role in identifying and treating these infections. The growing health inequities in the distribution and disproportionate impact of STIs add to the urgency of providing high-quality sexual health care through the ED. Changes in population health are reflected in the new Centers for Disease Control recommendations on screening, diagnostic testing, and treatment of STIs. This review covers common, as well ...

Outcomes of Total Hip Arthroplasty Performed for HIV-Associated Osteonecrosis in China: A Retrospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: THA is safe and effective in Chinese AIDS patients with ONFH. However, optimal treatment has limited efficacy in AIDS patients undergoing THA for ONFH. The reconsideration and evaluation of the predictive value of CD4+ T lymphocytes for postoperative complications in joint replacement procedures is warranted.PMID:38638043 | DOI:10.2174/011570162X302889240408033958 (Source: Current HIV Research)

Viruses, Vol. 16, Pages 636: U-CAN-seq: A Universal Competition Assay by Nanopore Sequencing
erris Mark T. Heise RNA viruses quickly evolve subtle genotypic changes that can have major impacts on viral fitness and host range, with potential consequences for human health. It is therefore important to understand the evolutionary fitness of novel viral variants relative to well-studied genotypes of epidemic viruses. Competition assays are an effective and rigorous system with which to assess the relative fitness of viral genotypes. However, it is challenging to quickly and cheaply distinguish and quantify fitness differences between very similar viral genotypes. Here, we describe a protocol for using reverse tr...

Tobacco price elasticity by socioeconomic characteristics in Ecuador
This article aims to estimate the price and income elasticity of cigarettes for different population groups in Ecuador. The National Survey of Urban and Rural Household I ncome and Expenditures (ENIGHUR) 2011–2012 was used, which has information on household cigarette consumption and its sociodemographic characteristics. Deaton’s Almost Ideal Demand System, which decouples the effect of quality on the price of the good, was applied. The elasticities were calculat ed for several groups: urban/rural, income levels (tertiles), education level, sex and age ranges of the household head, and frequency of cigarette purchases ...
