Stress, pain, anxiety, and depression in endometriosis-Targeting glial activation and inflammation
Int Immunopharmacol. 2024 Apr 1;132:111942. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2024.111942. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEndometriosis (EM) is a gynecological inflammatory disease often accompanied by stress, chronic pelvic pain (CPP), anxiety, and depression, leading to a diminished quality of life. This review aims to discuss the relationship between systemic and local inflammatory responses in the central nervous system (CNS), focusing on glial dysfunctions (astrocytes and microglia) as in critical brain regions involved in emotion, cognition, pain processing, anxiety, and depression. The review presents that EM is connected to inc...

Inhibition of IGF2BP1 attenuates the progression of endometriosis through PTBP1
CONCLUSIONS: IGF2BP1 exhibits potential beneficial properties in the management of EMs by interacting with PTBP1, thereby highlighting IGF2BP1 as a promising therapeutic target for EMs.PMID:38563050 | DOI:10.5603/fhc.98213 (Source: Folia Histochemica et Cytobiologica)

Assessment of quality of life, psychological aspects, and sexual function of women with endometriosis according to pain and infertility: a cross sectional study
ConclusionPain symptoms worsen anxiety, depression, and quality of life of women with endometriosis and when associated with infertility, greater impairment of psychological aspects may occur. (Source: Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics)

Mast Cells and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Contribute to Pelvic Tactile Allodynia in a Non-invasive Mouse Model of Endometriosis
Endometriosis (EM) impacts ~4 million women in the US. EM lesions are infiltrated with mast cells (MCs) and have elevated vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). To test the hypothesis that MC and VEGF drive endometriosis-associated pelvic pain, we assessed therapeutic agents on pelvic tactile allodynia in a mouse model of EM. C57BL/6J donor mice (6-weeks old) received a subcutaneous injection of estradiol benzoate (10 µg), and 4 days later, each uterine horn was excised and placed in Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) and minced. 122. Surgical Management and Postoperative Complications in Adolescents with Pathology Proven Endometriosis
Adolescents with significant dysmenorrhea may have endometriosis. When medical management is unsuccessful or unsatisfactory, some choose laparoscopy alone or with other procedures to potentially diagnose and/or treat endometriosis. ACOG calls for a shared medical decision making regarding diagnostic laparoscopy. However, risks associated with laparoscopy specific to this patient population are not well described. This multi-institutional study sought to characterize intraoperative management and complications for adolescents with pathology confirmed endometriosis. 98. Patient characteristics associated with pain remediation one year after endometriosis-related surgery: EndoQUEST
Not all patients with endometriosis will experience pain remediation after surgical treatment, but few predictors of treatment refractory chronic pain are known – especially among adolescents. We therefore assessed behavioral and symptom characteristics prior to surgery as predictors of pain symptoms one year after surgery. (Source: Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology)

34. Correlates of Endometriosis Diagnosis from Diagnostic Laparoscopy for Pelvic Pain in Transgender-Non Binary Patients
Endometriosis is estimated to affect 49-75% of adolescents with chronic pain who undergo laparoscopy. The prevalence of endometriosis in transgender-nonbinary (TGNB) adolescent and young adults (AYA) is estimated at 25% but data is limited. Interaction between gender dysphoria and pelvic pain have been poorly characterized. We aimed to describe the characteristics and rate of endometriosis in TGNB AYA patients who underwent diagnostic laparoscopy for pelvic pain at a single institution. 21. Characteristics and Preoperative Management of Pediatric and Adolescent Patients with Pathology Proven Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a significant cause of dysmenorrhea and chronic pelvic pain in adolescents. Treatment includes both medical and surgical interventions. Patients with pathology proven endometriosis have primarily been examined through single-institution case series and preoperative management has been sparsely characterized. This multi-institutional study sought to characterize demographics and preoperative management of patients who underwent laparoscopy and had pathology confirmed endometriosis.
