Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 5947: An Updated Review on Prebiotics: Insights on Potentials of Food Seeds Waste as Source of Potential Prebiotics
d Ayyash Prebiotics are a group of biological nutrients that are capable of being degraded by microflora in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), primarily Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria. When prebiotics are ingested, either as a food additive or as a supplement, the colonic microflora degrade them, producing short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), which are simultaneously released in the colon and absorbed into the blood circulatory system. The two major groups of prebiotics that have been extensively studied in relation to human health are fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) and galactooligosaccharides (GOS). The candidature of a com...

Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 5592: Facile Preparation and Analytical Utility of ZnO/Date Palm Fiber Nanocomposites in Lead Removal from Environmental Water Samples
This study reports a facile approach for preparing low-cost, eco-friendly nanocomposites of ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) and date palm tree fiber (DPF) as a biomass sorbent. The hypothesis of this research work is the formation of an outstanding adsorbent based on the date palm fiber and ZnO nanoparticles. ZnO NP/DPF nanocomposites were synthesized by mixing the synthesized ZnO NPs and DPF in different mass ratios and evaluating their efficacy in adsorbing Pb2+ from aqueous solutions. The structure and surface morphology of the developed ZnO NP/DPF nanocomposite were critically characterized by XRD, FESEM, and TEM techniques. C...

Contrasting genome patterns of two pseudomonas strains isolated from the date palm rhizosphere to assess survival in a hot arid environment
This study further evaluated their functions, metabolic pathways, and evolutionary relationship. Results show that both bacterial strains have gene clusters required for plant growth promotion (phosphate solubilization and root colonization), but it is more abundant inP. atacamensis SM1 than inP. toyotomiensis SM2. Genes involved in stress tolerance (mcp, rbs, wsp, andmot), heat shock, and chaperones (hslJ andhslR) were also more common inP. atacamensis SM1. These findings suggest thatP. atacamensis SM1could have better adaptability to the hot and arid environment owing to a higher abundance of chaperone genes and heat shock...

Effects of Fasting and Phoenix dactylifera on the Expression of Major Drug-Metabolizing Enzymes in the Mouse Livers
CONCLUSION: It is concluded from this study that fasting and consuming of Phoenix dactylifera upregulated the mRNA expression of major drug-metabolizing enzymes in mouse livers. These findings may explain, at least partly, the variation of drug response during fasting of the month of Ramadan and would direct future clinical studies in optimizing dosing of pharmacotherapeutic regimen.PMID:35993475 | DOI:10.2174/1389200223666220820105330 (Source: Current Drug Metabolism)

Monitoring of infestation percentages of the invasive red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), and management tactics: a six-year study
Braz J Biol. 2022 Aug 8;82:e263707. doi: 10.1590/1519-6984.263707. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTRed palm weevil (RPW), Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) (Coleoptera, Curculionidae), is a devastating invasive pest, that invaded Saudi Arabia's date palms in 1987. Evaluation of the infestations and the efficacy of both preventative and control treatments have been studied from 2015- 2020 in Qassim. The results indicated that the number of infested date palms varied according to the years and locations. The infested date palm trees percentage was relatively high in 2016 (2.24%) and 2017 (3.19%), then gradually decreased to reach...
