Effects of Sporisorium reiliana polysaccharides and Phoenix dactylifera monosaccharides on the gut microbiota and serum metabolism in mice with fructose-induced hyperuricemia
This study investigated and compared the effects of Sphacelotheca reiliana polysaccharides and Phoenix dactylifera monosaccharides on a series of physiological and biochemical indicators and on the metagenomes and serum metabolites in mice with hyperuricemia caused by a high-fructose diet. S. reiliana polysaccharides inhibited uric acid biosynthesis and promoted uric acid excretion, thereby alleviating the hyperuricemia phenotype. In addition, hyperuricemia was closely related to the gut microbiota. After treatment with S. reiliana polysaccharides, the abundances of Bacteroidetes and Proteobacteria in the mouse intestines ...

Comparison of alkali and ionic liquid pretreatment methods on the biochemical methane potential of date palm waste biomass
Bioresour Technol. 2022 Jun 21:127505. doi: 10.1016/j.biortech.2022.127505. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDate palm waste biomass is a readily accessible agricultural waste biomass that may be used to produce biogas. Because the complex structure of date palm waste biomass prevents the embedded holo-cellulosic sugars from biodegrading, pretreatment is required to increase methane (CH4) yield. The present investigation aimed to comparatively determine the impact of alkali and ionic liquid pretreatment on the biochemical methane potential (BMP) of different types of date palm waste biomass. The findings revealed that ionic l...

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 4680: Design of a Smart IoT-Based Control System for Remotely Managing Cold Storage Facilities
ahtani Cold storage is deemed one of the main elements in food safety management to maintain food quality. The temperature, relative humidity (RH), and air quality in cold storage rooms (CSRs) should be carefully controlled to ensure food quality and safety during cold storage. In addition, the components of CSR are exposed to risks caused by the electric current, high temperature surrounding the compressor of the condensing unit, snow and ice accumulation on the evaporator coils, and refrigerant gas leakage. These parameters affect the stored product quality, and the real-time sending of warnings is very important fo...

The miticidal activity of silver nanoparticles towards date palm mite (Oligonychus afrasiaticus (McGregor)): efficacy, selectivity, and risk assessment
Braz J Biol. 2022 Jun 10;84:e261262. doi: 10.1590/1519-6984.261262. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTPromising bioactivities of silver nanoparticles SNP urged researchers of different specialties to evaluate their field-respective activities. Bioactivity towards agricultural pests were the subject of limited publications. In the current study, SNP were synthesized and miticidal activity was evaluated towards old world date mite Oligonychus afrasiaticus (McGregor) (Acari: Tetranychidae) and an associated predatory mite Neoseiulus barkeri Hughes (Phytoseiidae). Under laboratory conditions, SNP displayed significantly higher activity...

Parametric study of novel plant-based seed coagulant in modeled wastewater turbidity removal
This study used novel leguminous (green beans (GB), pigeon pea (PP)), fruit seeds (Tamarind indica (TI), and date palm (DS)) as coagulants to remove turbidity. The seeds were powdered, and the crude active coagulants were extracted with distilled water and a 1 M NaCl solution. The result showed that PP's distilled water extract had the highest turbidity removal of 81.12%, while DS had the least performance of 62.54%. The NaCl extract of PP had the highest removal (94.62%), followed by TI (76.08%). This study found the optimum doses for GB, TI, PP, and DS to be 50, 40, 10, and 70 mL/L, with their optimum pH at 3, 1, 3, and ...

Mapping Risk of Nipah Virus Transmission from Bats to Humans in Thailand
AbstractNipah virus (NiV) is a zoonotic virus that can pose a serious threat to human and livestock health. Old-world fruit bats (Pteropus spp.) are the natural reservoir hosts for NiV, andPteropus lylei, Lyle ’s flying fox, is an important host of NiV in mainland Southeast Asia. NiV can be transmitted from bats to humans directly via bat-contaminated foods (i.e., date palm sap or fruit) or indirectly via livestock or other intermediate animal hosts. Here we construct risk maps for NiV spillover and tra nsmission by combining ecological niche models for theP. lylei bat reservoir with other spatial data related to direct ...
