Analysis of CXCL8 and its receptors CXCR1/CXCR2 at the mRNA level in neoplastic tissue, as well as in serum and peritoneal fluid in patients with ovarian cance
Mol Med Rep. 2022 Oct;26(4):296. doi: 10.3892/mmr.2022.12812. Epub 2022 Aug 3.ABSTRACTUnderstanding the relationship between the coexistence of inflammatory and neoplastic processes in ovarian cancer, particularly those involving chemokines and their receptors, may help to elucidate the involvement of the studied parameters in tumor pathogenesis and could lead to improved clinical applications. Therefore, the present study aimed to analyze the levels of C‑X‑C motif chemokine ligand 8 (CXCL8), and its receptors C‑X‑C chemokine receptor (CXCR)1 and CXCR2, in the serum and peritoneal fluid of women with ovarian cancer...

Seromucinous Cystadenoma Presenting as Endometriosis Complications in a 57-Year-Old Female: A Case Report
Cureus. 2022 Jun 28;14(6):e26405. doi: 10.7759/cureus.26405. eCollection 2022 Jun.ABSTRACTEndometriosis should be considered when a female patient reports symptoms of severe pain/tenderness in the pelvic area associated with a frequent need for urination, bloating, vomiting, or nausea. Clinical suspicion is increased if the patient has a history of endometriosis. However, many patients with endometriosis can be asymptomatic, which is why physicians and providers must keep an open mind and have a broad differential. Examinations that aid in the diagnosis of endometriosis include but are not limited to a pelvic examination, ...

Magnetic resonance imaging findings of cystic ovarian tumors: major differential diagnoses in five types frequently encountered in daily clinical practice
AbstractThere are many types of ovarian tumors, and these different types often form cystic masses with a similar appearance, which can make their differentiation difficult. However, with the exclusion of rare ovarian tumors, the number of ovarian tumors encountered in daily practice is somewhat fixed. It goes without saying that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is useful for differentiating ovarian tumors. In this review, we summarize the differential diagnoses for each of the five types of MRI findings commonly encountered in daily practice. First, unilocular cystic masses without mural nodules/solid components include b...

Cancers, Vol. 14, Pages 3719: Protein Panel of Serum-Derived Small Extracellular Vesicles for the Screening and Diagnosis of Epithelial Ovarian Cancer
peng He Guofen Yang Although ovarian cancer, a gynecological malignancy, has the highest fatality rate, it still lacks highly specific biomarkers, and the differential diagnosis of ovarian masses remains difficult to determine for gynecologists. Our study aimed to obtain ovarian cancer-specific protein candidates from the circulating small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) and develop a protein panel for ovarian cancer screening and differential diagnosis of ovarian masses. In our study, sEVs derived from the serum of healthy controls and patients with cystadenoma and ovarian cancer were investigated to obtain a cancer-s...

Neuroendocrine Tumor Arising within Mature Cystic Teratoma of the Pancreas: Literature Review and Case Report
We report the case of a 33-year-old female who presented with abdominal pain. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of the upper abdomen revealed an 85 mm cystic tumor in the head of the pancreas. Cystic teratoma and mucinous cystadenoma were suggested as differential diagnoses. Cytopathologic analysis of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration was consistent with mucinous cystadenoma. Therefore, the patient underwent surgical resection. Histologic analysis revealed a mature cystic teratoma of the pancreas with a concomitant neuroendocrine tumor. The patient is in great condition at 8 months follow...

Cystic pancreatic neoplasms in a tertiary gastroenterologic referral center: Evaluation of the diagnostic accuracy of endoscopic ultrasound, progression rate and malignancy rate in a large unicentric cohort
CONCLUSIONS: Endoscopic ultrasound differential diagnosis of CPNs is challenging. Even in a tertiary expert center, differentiation of serous and mucinous cystic neoplasia is not guaranteed. Relevant size progression of CPN, however, is rare, as is the rate of malignancy. The data of this study suggest that morphologic criteria to assess pancreatic cysts alone are not sufficient to allow a clear diagnosis. Hence, for the improved assessment of pancreatic cysts, EUS should be combined with additional tests and techniques such as MRT/MRCP, contrast-enhanced EUS, and/or FNA/fine needle biopsy including fluid analysis. The com...
