Effect of authentic leadership on nurses ’ stress, burnout, presenteeism during COVID-19
This study therefore aims to investigate nurses’ mental well-being who are working with COVID-19-positive patients. Burnout leads to decreased productivity and manifests as emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation (cynicism) and low personal accomplishment (professional efficacy). Authentic leadership is built on a humanistic value system, which is the core value of nurses and other health-care professionals. This study therefore used authentic leadership as the independent variable.A cross-sectional quantitative research method was adopted by distributing validated online questionnaires to 1,334 nurses in a private patho...

Science of psychological phenomena and their testing
Am Psychol. 2024 May 6. doi: 10.1037/amp0001362. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThere is no crisis of replication and generalizability in psychological science, only misunderstanding or forgetting the fundamental nature of psychological phenomena and resultant implications for empirical testing. Stability-variability is the central feature of every psychological phenomenon, meaning that brain-mind interactions can only create stable patterns from which there will always be deviations. Psychological phenomena are not comparable to COVID-19 vaccines that were very effective (95%) initially for almost everyone for a long time....

Determination of COVID-19 Late Disorders as Possible Long-COVID and/or Vaccination Consequences
This study included the vaccinated individuals of 4 different vaccine regimens including inactivated virus-based, subunit protein, and adenovirus-based vaccines in a follow-up schedule 6-month post the booster shot. All the documented vaccine adverse events were thoroughly assessed considering the cases' medical history by Adverse Events Committee of Pasteur Institute of Iran. Totally 329 individuals who got 3 doses of vaccination were followed 6 months after the booster shots among whom 41 (12.4%) cases with the mean age of 40.9 ± 10.48 years had a type of disorder. Gynecological and osteoarticular involvements were the ...

Self-management challenges of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Ekurhuleni district primary health care facilities amid COVID-19 lockdown
CONCLUSION: The patients with T2DM experienced uncontrolled blood glucose levels and financial challenges during the COVID-19 lockdown. Guidelines to improve self-management programmes during restrictions are needed to promote good health during future pandemics to prevent complications and mortality. The telehealth model can be designed to monitor chronic patients at home during lockdown as a two-way communication.Contribution: More knowledge and insight into self-management and health promotion of patients with T2DM was provided by this study. Increased training needs arose for PHC nurses in managing and monitoring pati...

Clinical characteristics and outcomes of psoriasis patients with COVID-19: A retrospective, multicenter cohort study in China
CONCLUSIONS: A reduced risk of psoriasis exacerbation after SARS-CoV-2 infection was observed with biologics compared to traditional systemic and nonsystemic treatments. Significant risk factors for exacerbation after infection were identified as existing psoriatic lesions and hypertension.TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov (No. NCT05961605).PMID:38710539 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000003024 (Source: Chinese Medical Journal)

S100A9: The Unusual Suspect Connecting Viral Infection and Inflammation
J Immunol. 2024 May 15;212(10):1523-1529. doi: 10.4049/jimmunol.2300640.ABSTRACTThe study of S100A9 in viral infections has seen increased interest since the COVID-19 pandemic. S100A8/A9 levels were found to be correlated with the severity of COVID-19 disease, cytokine storm, and changes in myeloid cell subsets. These data led to the hypothesis that S100A8/A9 proteins might play an active role in COVID-19 pathogenesis. This review explores the structures and functions of S100A8/9 and the current knowledge on the involvement of S100A8/A9 and its constituents in viral infections. The potential roles of S100A9 in SARS-CoV-2 i...

A case of hypophysitis after COVID-19 vaccination with a detection of anti-pituitary antibody, with review of literature
In this report, we present a case of hypophysitis following COVID-19 vaccination and review the literature on this condition. This case involved a 72-year-old male with type 1 diabetes who experienced symptoms such as vomiting, appetite loss, and headaches following his fifth COVID-19 vaccine dose. He was diagnosed with secondary adrenal insufficiency; subsequent assessment revealed an enlarged pituitary gland. Unlike previous cases, our patient has partial recovery from pituitary insufficiency, and his pituitary function gradually improved over time. Anti-pituitary antibodies (APAs) against corticotrophs, thyrotrophs, gon...
