Glycemic Control and Mucormycosis during COVID-19 Pandemic in India a Study of Stage and Outcome
CONCLUSION: The study showed a positive correlation between the stage of mucormycosis and serum glycemic control markers at presentation. Clinicians must order blood sugar and HbA1c levels at presentation as cues for a better understanding of disease severity. A thorough clinical examination and history taking for patient risk factors predisposing to mucormycosis are also crucial since the presence of proptosis and coronary artery disease are significantly correlated with the mortality outcomes. Humoral Response After Two Doses of COVISHIELD < sup > TM < /sup > Vaccine in Patients Undergoing Maintenance Hemodialysis
CONCLUSION: In MHD patients, two doses of the COVISHIELDTM vaccine induced a substantial humoral response. Prior history of COVID-19 resulted in a higher antibody response. Increased Pill Burden and Adverse Effects of Psychotropics Correlated with Poor Quality of Life and Medication Nonadherence: A Cross-sectional Drug Utilization Study at a Tertiary Care Hospital in Delhi during COVID-19 Pandemic
CONCLUSION: In the tertiary care hospital described, rational drug prescribing was followed. Increase in the number of drugs per prescription was found to be associated with poor QOL and the development of ADRs led to medication nonadherence in the patients. United States marijuana legalization and opioid mortality trends before and during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic
CONCLUSIONS: During the past decade, marijuana legalization in the US was associated at the jurisdiction level with a greater acceleration in opioid death rate. An even greater increase in opioid mortality occurred in recreational-legalizing jurisdictions with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Analysis of cases with co-infection of COVID-19 and pulmonary aspergillosis
This study included 201 COVID-19 patients from December 1, 2022, to January 31, 2023; 7 (3.5%) were diagnosed with CAPA. The main risk factors were age, MV, ICU admission and COPD, and the presence of comorbidities such as ARDS and hypoproteinemia in COVID-19 patients, more susceptible to Aspergillus infection. Qualitative Study of Food Insecurity in Hospitalized Pediatric Patients during the COVID-19 Pandemic
CONCLUSIONS: The COVID-19 pandemic impacted unemployment and poverty and consequently exacerbated FI. Our findings point to the need to focus on proximal societal solutions, such as federal policies aimed at food assistance and childcare. Surgical capacity is disaster preparedness: A scoping review of how surgery and anesthesiology departments responded to COVID-19
CONCLUSION: Our review reflects the mechanisms by which hospital surgical systems responded to the initial stress of the COVID-19 pandemic and reinforced the many changes to hospital policy that occurred in the pandemic. Healthcare systems with robust surgical systems were better able to cope with the initial stress of the COVID-19 pandemic. The well-resourced health systems of HICs reported rapid and dynamic changes by providers to assist in and ultimately improve the care of patients during the pandemic.
