Is the Risk of Intrahepatic Cholestasis Increased with Supplemental Progesterone?
Conclusion Contrary to recent evidence, no association was seen with the use of supplemental progesterone. It is possible that the associated risk with supplemental progesterone is dependent on medication formulation or route of administration. Arthrogryposis, renal dysfunction, cholestasis syndrome with a novel mutation in two siblings
Key Clinical MessageThis current case series adds to the spectrum of Arthrogryposis renal dysfunction cholestasis (ARC)-associated variants. Increased awareness and early genetic testing for ARC are suggested in cases with failure to thrive, renal tubular dysfunction, and rickets, even when the degree of cholestasis is mild. Prompt identification and intervention may improve the quality of life. (Source: Clinical Case Reports)

Hepatic phenotypes of EFL1-related Shwachman-Diamond syndrome in a biopsy-validated study
Shwachman Diamond Syndrome (SDS), an inherited bone marrow failure syndrome, is characterized by exocrine pancreatic deficiency, predisposition to myeloid malignancies, and skeletal dysplasia. Other symptoms also include hepatic and renal involvement. Hepatomegaly and aminotransaminase elevation can be observed at an early age in SDS patients, typically with an overall good prognosis. A follow-up with mild cholestasis may reflect primary alterations in liver metabolism in SDS. During the long follow-up, no major liver abnormalities appeared [1]. (Source: Journal of Hepatology)

Expression and clinical significance of short-chain fatty acids in patients with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy
CONCLUSION: Compared with the NP group, significant alterations were observed in the SCFAs of maternal serum and cord blood in the ICP group, although they displayed distinct patterns of change. Furthermore, the SCFA levels in maternal serum and cord blood were significantly positively correlated. Notably, certain maternal serum SCFAs, specifically caproic and acetic acids, demonstrated excellent diagnostic efficiency for ICP.PMID:38689740 | PMC:PMC11056904 | DOI:10.4254/wjh.v16.i4.601 (Source: World Journal of Hepatology)

The role of Ca < sup > 2+ < /sup > signalling and InsP3R in the pathogenesis of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy
CONCLUSIONS: Our results revealed that the expression of InsP3R and serum Ca2+ levels was significantly decreased in the liver tissue of ICP model rats. Additionally, Ca2+ levels were found to be negatively correlated with the level of glycocholic acid.PMID:38685831 | DOI:10.1080/01443615.2024.2345276 (Source: Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology)

Clinical characteristics and outcomes of acute liver failure in neonates: a retrospective cohort in China
Conclusion: Hypoxic/ischemic injury and infection are the predominant etiologies of NALF in China. The overall prognosis of NALF is poor, but its short-term prognosis is determined by the etiology. What is Known: • Neonatal acute liver failure (NALF) is a rare disorder with limited cohort studies, especially in China. • Gestational alloimmune liver disease, viral infections (especially herpes simplex virus), metabolic diseases and ischemic insults are common etiologies of NALF, which are significantly different from other populations. • There are no reliable biochemical markers to predict the outcome of NALF.
