Non-trad Canadian Citizen seeking advice to get into a US Med School
Hey Everyone, Before I begin, I would like to say please excuse my ignorance as I'm pretty early on in my med school admissions journey. Background: I am a recent graduate from the University of Toronto (UofT). I did my undergrad in Finance from Rotman (the business school) however around my second year I kinda realized this wasn't really something I had signed up for or was interested in long term. I wasn't really into the corporate culture and wanted to do something that was more... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC: 3.6 GPA, 503 MCAT, Canadian
-3.6 GPA -503 MCAT (126/125/124/128) -Canadian -ORM -Few hundred volunteer/shadowing hours I'm only applying to DO this cycle, but I'm worried about my chances with my MCAT. I know DO schools commonly accept an average of around 504 on the MCAT, but does that also apply to Canadians? As a Canadian, are my stats good enough for US DO's? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is there any chance for me as a Canadian applicant to US schools with an average GPA?
I'm a Canadian citizen with a 3.5 cGPA and roughly a 3.6 sGPA. Will take the DAT at the end of July (this is why I didn't do a WAMC post instead) but I've been consistently scoring 21-22 AA on DAT Booster recently. I'm just wondering if there's any chance for me to get accepted to an American dental school with this average GPA and a (hopefully) decent DAT. I plan to apply broadly to all Canadian-friendly schools, including NYU. I guess I've just been looking at my friends with 3.9+ GPAs... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Deadline for taking the Step 1 for this ERAS cycle?
Hello, I am a current Canadian PGY1 who will be applying to US residency this cycle and will be planning to take the Step 2 and then the Step 1 this summer. Unfortunately, seems that there are no possible test dates available for a whole month from mid August all the way up until Sept 21 - which is the earliest possible test date within that window (at least from a Canada location). There are some US locations still scheduling tests within that window - but they would be a bit of a drive... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Acsom
Looks like the new American Canadian School of Medicine is starting up in September 2023 on Dominica in the old Ross campus. Not seen anything on this so far on SDN, so thought I'd post this as a FYI. To be clear, with no track record, its high risk, and I'm not suggesting it, just noting its launch. American Canadian School of Medicine - Caribbean Medical Education | ACSOM ACSOM is a non-profit medical school in the Caribbean offering an exceptional medical degree program with clinical exposure from day one, world-class faculty, and quality residency opportunities in the...

Repeating a prerequisite for the third time?
I'm an international fourth-year pre-dental student in Canada and I'd like to apply to several schools across both Canada and US. My cGPA is 3.46 and my science GPA is 3.39. I'm taking the American DAT later this summer, but I have taken the Canadian DAT and got 20 on all categories (only one try). I'm hoping for a higher score this time. Biochemistry at my university has been a nightmare for me. In other schools in the province, biochemistry is usually distributed across 2 semester, but... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC Canadian applicant, cGPA:3.92, MCAT 514 (CARS126) - Please help with school list!
Hello, I am limited financially so I can't apply to many schools; I'd appreciate your help in narrowing my school list down to schools I really may have a chance in (10-15). ECs: 2000h research + 2 pubs Leadership, around 2000h at various school clubs 300h volunteering at hospital A number of awards + poster presentations just getting started with non-clinical volunteering in may will... WAMC, Canadian student 3.3 cGPA, 3.83 GPA in last 2 years/60 credits
Hi everyone, I completed my undergrad in lifesci with a 3.3 cumulative GPA and 3.83 GPA in the recent two years of undergrad. I graduated in 2021 and have been working in sales since because of responsibilities and having to take care of finances and survive on my own. I am yet to write my MCAT but since I work FT and PT I am giving myself 9-10 months to prepare and write it. I do understand my chances depend heavily on my MCAT. I have research experience, a lot of clinical hours under my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Transferring to Yale School of Medicine
I was recently fortunate enough to be accepted into medical school in Canada. However, the PI I have been working with for the last two years is based at Yale. As I am getting involved in more projects, it would be better if I could be there in person to continue my work (I would have applied to Yale last cycle except I took the MCAT in September of last year). I was wondering if anyone knew what the Yale transfer process was as I know there have been previous transfers to Yale but I do not... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Any other Canadians who have applied to Cornell Vet School?
Hi everyone, I am new to SDN, but love to see the positivity and support in this community. I am wondering if there is anyone in this community that has applied to Cornell Vet School as a Canadian student and been accepted? Or even just has experience with the application process? I was hoping to get some input on grades and how the GPA is converted from a 4.3 GPA scale to the 4.0 scale. I also have a MSc in Neuroscience from Queen's University, and wonder how this is taken into... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Critical care fellowships
Are there any CCM Anesthesiology programmes that people would say should be avoided? Either because of poor teaching, too much of a “workhorse” mentality rather than education mentality or because of overtly toxic personalities. Also can those of you who’ve recently done a fellowship in CCM who can talk a bit about your average day/week? I know it’s a bit painful lifestyle wise but just wondering roughly what to expect. Interested in people’s thoughts both re US and Canada. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
