Interesting article in The Atlantic: Why America Has So Few Doctors
I found this fascinating. I had no idea that NAFTA made it especially hard for Canadian and Mexican docs to emigrate here to practice medicine. Why America Has So Few Doctors (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dentistry in Canada vs. the USA... is the sky falling?
Firstly, what are the major differences in practicing dentistry in Canada vs. the US? Can people weigh in on that a little bit, because from what I have read many dentists from the USA are telling students not to do dental because the corporate is taking over. However, I have yet to meet a dentist (GP or specialist) in Canada who is making less than $200k/year. Obviously I know there are dentists in Canada making less than that (semi-retired, brand new grad, etc.) but they seem less common... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Now we're talking
Doctors in Canada can now prescribe national park passes to patients A trip to the doctor can yield any number of recommendations, from bed rest to medicine. But as of late January, Canadian patients can be sent home with more novel note: a prescription for a national parks pass. How does a Canadian Psychiatrist go about practicing in the USA
Hi all, Theoretically if I wanted to set up shop in the US with Canadian med school/psychiatry training what would I need to do? I read somewhere that American/Canadian boards recognize each other's training? Would I need to write USMLEs? Any insight would be much appreciated! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Switch from IM to FM
Well, currently PGY1 internist , loved outpatient, loved OBgyn, ped and outpatient procedures. (which IM does not have) Please I am under a J1 visa sponsored by the Canadian Gov, doing IM = jobless when I return to Canada, because accreditation is a long process. and I do not want to do J1 waiver. I got above average step 1/CK score and excellent ITE. I know it is late in the game, but do I have an advantage? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Advice for unsuccessful applicant to reapply again (Canadian)
Hi everyone, I am a Canadian pre-med who is Graduating from undergrad this Spring in a Bachelor of science. I applied this cycle (2021-22) to 26 US schools, and did not receive a single II. Considering the cycle is almost complete, I would like some advice for how to approach re-applying for the upcoming cycle. I do feel quite defeated, but I am willing to do anything I can truly. Stats: Undergraduate: cGPA: 3.91 sGPA (BCPM): 3.91 I am currently in my final year of Undergraduate study so I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Forensic science as pre med
I'm planning on choosing BSc Forensics as my premed in Canada. Do you think there's any scope for it there in case I don't get into med school? Will a Masters in Forensics help me land a stable job with a stable income? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Electrophysiology fellowship
Is it possible for a US MD/Cardiology Fellow to do EP in Canada? Would it be hard to compete vs. Canadians? I have a strong desire to do EP however I have strong desire to live in a cold place with ski resorts not too far away. Also like the possibility of living in Canada in the future. Feel free to respond directly to this or message me personally. I am currently at a hospital for my general cardiology fellowship that will give me significant procedural EP experience in ablation and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

2022 RCPSC Exam - Internal
How do I study for this thing? I just wrote ABIM — went ok. How does ABIM compare to the Royal exam? I’m hearing a tonne of seemingly cooky stuff on these forums. There are secret past exams that are essential to passing?? Most takers study 4-8 hours per day for an entire year?? Uworld, coupled with a review of Canadian CPGs, is a good strategy, yeah? Locum in Canada
Does anyone have experience locuming in Canada? I've been doing lots of stints in Australia and want to head over there for a couple years and travel around. But there don't seem to be too many jobs openly advertised, and the physician locum companies I've contacted all appear to be identity fraud scams! Any suggestions for companies, or direct contacts? Foreign trained dentists and OMS
Hello friends and colleagues. I recently posted in a different forum, but I thought I would post something here as it might make for an interesting discussion. like you all, I'm a foreign-trained dentist (South Africa), and I have recently been accepted into a qualifying program in Canada. I'm wondering if there are any foreign dentists here on this forum that have completed a qualifying program, either in Canada or the US, and then gone on to do a residency in oral maxillofacial surgery... Help me decide between Neurosurgery and Ortho
I am a 2nd year med student in Canada and have been having a difficult time deciding on specialties. I have shadowed a lot of specialties, but only ortho and neurosurgery were the ones that I felt drawn to. Here is my experience with the two specialties: Ortho: In general, I find myself to be a great fit in the ortho community. I somewhat fit the stereotypical bro image too (athletic, Muay Thai trained, work hard, play hard kinda dude), and most of my classmates already assume I am going...
