Early 30's - 3.1 cGPA - Canadian Applicant - Considering Postbacc for MD Schools
Background: I studied science in a canadian university out of high school, ran into some difficulties in my program for my first 3 semesters (diffculties were financial, but also maturity). By definition I come from a disadvantaged economic background and finances were always the greatest constraint and worry as I attended universities in Canada with high costs of living in my region (national student aid in Canada is not always guanateed to cover even basic costs at times depending how it... SGU Canadians don't need MCAT?
Hello. I was looking at the SGU website Medical School Requirements & Prerequisites | SGU and I noticed that Canadians and applicants from outside North America are not required to submit an MCAT score unless they have previously taken it, which I have not. Does this put me at a disadvantage compared to other applicants who have taken the MCAT? I also have another question - would applying now for August 2023 or January 2024 be too late? Anyone know if classes are filled by now? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Canadian Family Physician Interested in US IM Programs
Hello, I am a family physician working in Canada and have an interest in coming to the US to complete an internal medicine residency. I had a few questions that I would greatly appreciate some insight into: (1) Could my previous residency training count towards a transitional or preliminary year to shorten the total duration of training? For example, would I be able to complete an internal medicine residency in 2 years by using previous training to count as a transitional year. -I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Practicing Structural Interventions without STEMI call
Hello everyone, Fourth year medical student here that is very interested in Cardiology. Furthermore, I would like to be involved in the procedural aspects of Cardiology, particularly the structural part. I'm a Canadian medical student but am considering coming to the US for my cardiology fellowship. I have two questions: 1. Would it be possible to work as an interventional cardiologist without taking STEMI call? For example, I know there are combined interventional and structural... Royal College IM exam resources?
Hello! Hope you’re all well. I’m a Canadian citizen who graduated from Ireland and did internal medicine training in Ireland. I’ve gone through the long process of having my training evaluated and can sit the spring 2023 IM exam. Having not been in the Canadian system, I’m looking for a little guidance as to how best prepare for this exam. Is there a question bank people use? I see that people recommend the IMR course so I’ll do that, but is there any other resource people recommend? Are... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Submitting Secondary Near Deadline for a Non-Rolling School
Hello! Hope everyone is doing well in this rather stressful time of the cycle. I am wondering if submitting a secondary near the deadline for a non-rolling school would pose significant challenges for my chances of getting an II (as a Canadian applicant!) Would submitting be worthwhile? Specifically, it's Duke, with their 8 x 400-word essays. For context, I submitted most apps July/August, but since I only have 1 II so far, I think I should take all the shots I can get. I am... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Non-Canadian International Junior
Started my third year and plan on applying to USMD schools the next cycle. I’m really concerned about my ECs primarily because I have zero clinical experience and shadowing. I was stuck in my home country freshman year( because I’m non-Canadian international) and my university was online for fall semester sophomore year- and that made getting clinical experience and other ECs hard . I’m sharing my current profile to get some advice on what I could do to maximise my odds of getting into an... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Landscape for Addiction Psych
A bit about me. Completed addiction psych fellowship last year, but moved to Canada for personal reasons. Been doing mainly general adult psych, inpt and opt. It feels like it’s just all reactive mood disorders and personality disorders. I enjoy doing pure additions so much more. So I’m wondering what kind of practice settings and jobs people with the addictions background are doing? What are opportunities and pay like? If your fellowship trained, can you choose to focus on just addictions... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
