Comparison of prematurity-related outcomes and complications in very low birth weight (VLBW) neonates fed with mother`s own milk versus donor milk: a comparative study
CONCLUSION: Our study findings indicate that the utilization of DM didn`t have a substantial negative impact on infants` outcomes nor any complications in comparison with MOM.PMID:38523376 | DOI:10.24953/turkjped.2023.684 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Pediatrics)

An epidemiological investigation of high-risk infants for Respiratory Syncytial Virus infections: a retrospective cohort study
ConclusionsThe assessment of the study clinical outcomes highlighted that, the demographic and clinical characteristics at birth of the study cohorts influence their level of vulnerability to RSV and URA infections. As such, continuous monitoring of these populations is necessary in order to ensure a timely organization of health care system able to respond to their needs in the future. Need for Gastrostomy Tube in Periviable Infants
Conclusion A high percentage of periviable infants surviving until discharge require g-tube at our institution. In this single-center retrospective study, we noted that maternal Black race, singleton gestation, and BPD were associated with increased risk for g-tube placement in infants born between 22 and 25 weeks' gestation. The finding of increased risk with maternal Black race is consistent with previous reports of racial/ethnic disparities in preterm morbidities. Additional studies examining factors associated with successful achievement of oral feedings in preterm infants are necessary and will inform future efforts...

TGF- α/EGFR signaling promotes lipopolysaccharide-induced abnormal elastin deposition and alveolar simplification
Exp Cell Res. 2024 Mar 18:113997. doi: 10.1016/j.yexcr.2024.113997. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is characterized by shortened secondary septa and fewer, larger alveoli. Elastin deposition to the distal tips of the secondary septa is critical for elongation of the secondary septa. Alveolar myofibroblasts, which are thought to migrate to the septal tips during alveolarization, are mainly responsible for elastin production and deposition. Antenatal exposure to inflammation induces abnormal elastin deposition, thereby increasing the risk of developing BPD. Here, we found that lipopolysacchari...
