Etiology and Clinical Characteristics of Community-Acquired Pneumonia in Korean Children During the Pre-COVID-19 Period, 2015-2020
CONCLUSION: M. pneumoniae and RSV were the most commonly detected pathogens of pediatric CAP, which was selected by strict clinical and radiologic criteria. It is necessary to carefully decide whether to use parenteral antibiotics based on the epidemiology and clinical features of CAP in children.PMID:37935166 | PMC:PMC10627724 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2023.38.e339 (Source: Journal of Korean Medical Science)

De ‐implementing low‐value continuous pulse oximetry practice in infants hospitalized with bronchiolitis: A multicentre qualitative study
ConclusionsUnderstanding professional roles, clarity around local practice standards and supporting families'  understanding of pulse oximetry practice is essential for practice change. These findings may inform hospital quality improvement efforts to de-implement continuous monitoring in bronchiolitis hospital care. (Source: Journal of Hospital Medicine)

Predicting long-term neurocognitive outcome after pediatric intensive care unit admission for bronchiolitis —preliminary exploration of the potential of machine learning
Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that in children with previous PICU admission for bronchiolitis, (1) lower birth weight, younger age at follow-up, and lower socioeconomic status are associated with poorer neurocognitive outcome; and (2) greater exposure to acidotic events during PICU admission is associated with poorer verbal memory outcome. The findings of this study provide no evidence for the added value of machine learning models as compared to linear regression analysis in the prediction of long-term neurocognitive outcome in a relatively small sample of children. What is Known:• Adverse neurocognitive...

Association between goal nutrition and intubation in patients with bronchiolitis on non-invasive ventilation: A retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: We observed when adjusting for severity, feeding route, and respiratory support, achieving goal calories remained associated with a lower rate of intubation, without higher rates of aspiration. Confounding factors include practice variation and difference in severity of illness that objective scoring may have missed. This article is protected by copyright. Apnea or cyanosis as COVID-19 initial presentation in newborns
Conclusions: Apnea and cyanosis can be a manifestation of SARS-CoV-2 infection in newborns, which suggests the need to include it in the diagnostic workup as other viral respiratory infections. (Source: The Journal of Infection in Developing Countries)
