Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 1544: Atypical Hepatitis B Virus Serology Profile & mdash;Hepatitis B Surface Antigen-Positive/Hepatitis B Core Antibody-Negative & mdash;In Hepatitis B Virus/HIV Coinfected Individuals in Botswana
Conclusions: We report a high HBsAg+/anti-HBc- atypical serology profile prevalence among PWH in Botswana. We caution against HBV-testing algorithms that consider only anti-HBc+ samples for HBsAg testing, as they are likely to underestimate HBV prevalence. Studies to elucidate the mechanisms and implications of this profile are warranted. (Source: Viruses)

An assessment of four decades atmospheric PM2.5 trends in urban locations over Southern Africa using MERRA-2 reanalysis
AbstractExcess concentration of aerosols with aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 μm (PM2.5) in atmosphere has significant implications to both climate and human health. For the first time, this study estimated four decades (1980 –2021) trends of PM2.5 in urban locations across Southern Africa using the Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Applications Version 2 (MERRA-2) aerosol simulations. The findings show that the highest PM2.5 is recorded during the peak of biomass burning, September-October-November (SON season) in locations selected over Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Botswana, Na...

A Multi-Institutional Study of Barriers to Cervical Cancer Care in Sub-Saharan Africa
CONCLUSIONS: Financial and belief barriers identified in Zimbabwe showcase the importance of targeting cost and health literacy to reduce apprehensions. In Botswana, administrative challenges could be addressed with patient navigation. Improving our understanding of the specific barriers to cancer care could enable us to help patients who might otherwise default.PMID:37408670 | PMC:PMC10318208 | DOI:10.1016/j.adro.2023.101257 (Source: Adv Data)

Stigma and Social Determinants of Health Associated With Fidelity to Guideline-Concordant Therapy in Patients With Breast Cancer Living With and Without HIV in Botswana
CONCLUSION: We identified multilevel modifiable patient and health system factors associated with fidelity. The facilitators provide opportunities for leveraging existing strengths within the Botswana context to design implementation strategies to increase treatment fidelity to -guideline-concordant breast cancer therapy. However, PWH experienced unique barriers, suggesting that interventions to address fidelity may need to be tailored to specific comorbidities.PMID:37405697 | DOI:10.1093/oncolo/oyad183 (Source: The Oncologist)

Socio-economic differentials of under-five mortality in Botswana: an application of the indirect estimation method
ConclusionsThe findings of this study show that policies and interventions targeted at reducing inequalities should reach all socioeconomic groups across the country. Differences of each society and localities should be considered while designing and implementing policies and interventions. (Source: Journal of Public Health)

Provider perspectives on antiretroviral therapy adherence among psychiatric inpatients in Botswana
Conclusions: Findings from this study revealed unique insights into the numerous factors that influence ART adherence among psychiatric inpatients, and underscore the need to implement tailored strategies to support ART adherence in this population with complex health needs.PMID:37337820 | DOI:10.2989/16085906.2023.2213211 (Source: African Journal of AIDS Research)
