Time Trends in Male Breast Cancer Incidence, Mortality, and Survival in Austria (1983-2017)
CONCLUSION: Despite improvements in survival rates, MBC mortality rates remained largely stable between 1983 and 2017 in Austria, possibly resulting from a balance between increasing overall incidence and stable incidence rates of distant disease MBC.PMID:38328515 | PMC:PMC10849143 | DOI:10.2147/CLEP.S428824 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 1003: Systematic Literature Review Regarding Heart Rate and Respiratory Rate Measurement by Means of Radar Technology
Sammito The use of radar technology for non-contact measurement of vital parameters is increasingly being examined in scientific studies. Based on a systematic literature search in the PubMed, German National Library, Austrian Library Network (Union Catalog), Swiss National Library and Common Library Network databases, the accuracy of heart rate and/or respiratory rate measurements by means of radar technology was analyzed. In 37% of the included studies on the measurement of the respiratory rate and in 48% of those on the measurement of the heart rate, the maximum deviation was 5%. For a tolerated deviation of 10%, th...

Estimating Hidden Population Size of COVID-19 Using Respondent- Driven Sampling Method - A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: In general, our study illustrates the efficacy of RDS sampling in the estimation of undetected asymptomatic cases with high cost-effectiveness due to its relatively trouble-free and low-cost methods of sampling the population. This method would be valuable in probable future epidemics.PMID:38299412 | DOI:10.2174/0118715265277789240110043215 (Source: Infectious Disorders Drug Targets)

Layperson basic life support education in Austria: An overview
Wien Klin Wochenschr. 2024 Feb 1. doi: 10.1007/s00508-024-02331-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEarly interventions of laypersons can improve the survival and neurological outcome in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. There are several organizations in Austria which train lay people in basic life support and raise awareness for sudden cardiac death. To obtain an overview of the various initiatives, a questionnaire was sent to 26 organizations, and 15 of the organizations (58%) replied. The geographical distribution of the organizations between rural and urban areas was illustrated in a map. Most of them are sit...

One (Financial Well-Being) Model Fits All? Testing the Multidimensional Subjective Financial Well-Being Scale Across Nine Countries
AbstractA multidimensional model of emerging adults ’ subjective financial well-being was proposed (Sorgente and Lanz, Int Journal of Behavioral Development, 43(5), 466–478 2019). The authors also developed a 5-factor scale (the Multidimensional Subjective Financial Well-being Scale, MSFWBS) intending to measure this construct in the European con text. To date, data using this instrument have been collected in nine countries: Austria, Canada, Finland, India, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, and Turkey. In the current study, data from these countries were analysed to test the validity of this model internationally. I...

Crowd-sourced symptom data in pollen allergy: testing a  novel study approach for assessing the efficacy of food supplements
ConclusionThe study design relied on the evaluation of crowd-source symptom data alone by comparing the participants with a  baseline. The participant adherence turned out lower than expected; however a trend for reduced symptoms was found and is also supported by the quality-of-life questionnaire. Description of a new freshwater bacterium Aquirufa regiilacus sp. nov., classification of the genera Aquirufa, Arundinibacter, Sandaracinomonas, and Tellurirhabdus to the family Spirosomataceae, classification of the genus Chryseotalea to the family Fulvivirgaceae and Litoribacter to the family Cyclobacteriaceae, as well as classification of Litoribacter alkaliphilus as a later heterotypic synonym of Litoribacter ruber
Arch Microbiol. 2024 Jan 27;206(2):79. doi: 10.1007/s00203-023-03801-8.ABSTRACTStrains LEOWEIH-7CT and LEPPI-3A were isolated from the Leopoldskroner Weiher, a lake located in the city of Salzburg, Austria. 16S rRNA gene similarities and phylogenetic reconstructions with 16S rRNA gene sequences as well as based on genome sequences revealed that the new strains belong to the A. antheringensis branch of the genus Aquirufa. Calculated whole-genome average nucleotide identity (gANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) values with the closely related type strains showed that the two strains represent a single new species. ...
