Hub Genes, Possible Pathways and Predicted Drugs in Hereditary Gingival Fibromatosis by Bioinformatics Analysis
CONCLUSION: This study offered some novel insights into molecular pathways and identified five hub genes associated with cell adhesion. Based on these hub genes, three potential therapeutic miRNAs and small-molecule drugs were predicted, which are expected to provide guidance for the treatment of patients with HGF.PMID:38546525 | DOI:10.3290/j.cjdr.b5128671 (Source: Cell Research)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1283: Evaluation of a Population-Based Targeted Screening Approach for Skin Cancer with Long-Time Follow-Up in Austria including Potential Effects on Melanoma Mortality
Conclusions: given the uncertain effectiveness and high public expenditures of population-wide mass screening programs, primary prevention and targeted risk-based skin cancer screening might be promising alternatives. (Source: Cancers)

Adherence and Persistence to Basal Insulin Among People with Type  2 Diabetes in Europe: A Systematic Literature Review and Meta-analysis
ConclusionThe results highlight that almost half of patients with T2D in Western Europe have poor adherence to insulin therapy and, at 18  months, one in three patients do not persist on treatment. These findings call for new basal insulin therapies and diabetes management strategies that can improve treatment persistence and adherence among people with T2D. (Source: Diabetes Therapy)

Evidence-based practice in Bachelor of Nursing programmes in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland: A survey of general conditions, teaching content and methods
CONCLUSIONS: Topics on evidence-based practice are an integral part of bachelor's degree programs in nursing in German-speaking countries. An increase in teaching units, active learning methods and the growing interconnection between education and practice could improve the acquisition of competencies and attitudes of students regarding EBP and further advance its implementation in practice.PMID:38519358 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2024.01.006 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Evidenz, Fortbildung und Qualitat im Gesundheitswesen)

Costs attributable to hypercholesterolemia in a single period and over the life cycle
AbstractHypercholesterolemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease leading to reduced (healthy) life years. The aim of this study is to quantify the societal costs associated with hypercholesterolemia. We use epidemiologic data on the distribution of cholesterol levels as well as data on relative risks regarding ischemic heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases. The analytical approach is based on the use of population-attributable fractions applied to direct medical, direct non-medical and indirect costs using data of Austria. Within a life-cycle analysis we sum up the costs of ...

Moving forward after the COVID-19 pandemic: Lessons learned in primary care from the multi-country PRICOV-19 study
CONCLUSION: Policymakers, primary care associations, and the broader healthcare system are urged to collaboratively take responsibility and increase support for GP practices to enhance their resilience, adaptability, and capacity to deliver safe and equitable healthcare during future crises.PMID:38511848 | DOI:10.1080/13814788.2024.2328716 (Source: European Journal of General Practice)

Efficacy of a Modular Imaging Algorithm for Surveillance After Endovascular Aortic Repair
Research on optimal surveillance after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) has been dominated by efforts to find the single best-suited imaging modality culminating in one-size-fits-all approaches, even though treatment strategies and often endografts themselves are tailor-made to adjust for individual patients. Endoleaks are the most common finding and most common reason for re-intervention after EVAR. Therefore, imaging modalities have been primarily investigated for endoleak detection, where contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and computed tomography angiography (CTA) repeatedly showed the highest accuracy. Critical care management of acute intoxications, dynamics and changes over time: a cohort study
This study aimed to determine the characteristics of intoxicated patients in a tertiary center medical ICU in Austria over time and to investigate parameters associated with ICU mortality. This study was a retrospective data analysis including adult ICU patients from the years 2007 to 2021. In addition to ICU documentation, pre-hospital, and emergency department documents as well as autopsy reports were utilized. In an exploratory subanalysis, we compared these findings to a historical dataset from our facility from 1992 to 1996. We identified 581 cases admitted to the medical ICU because of acute poisoning (2007 –2021),...
