Process and outcome of outpatient psychotherapies under clinically representative conditions in Austria: protocol and feasibility of an ongoing study
DiscussionRecruitment for this study has posed substantial challenges due to psychotherapists’ concerns regarding data protection, extensive documentation, and philosophical reservations about the study design. Consequently, we recruited fewer participants than initially planned. Despite these hurdles, qualitative data collection has shown notable success. Given psychotherapists’ busy schedules and reluctance to participate, more potent external incentives or a legal obligation may be necessary to encourage participation in future studies. The costs of overwintering in paper wasps (Polistes dominula and Polistes gallicus): the use of energy stores
AbstractOverwintering insects are facing energetic challenges because of food shortage, low temperature, and desiccation stress. Paper wasps of the genusPolistes overwinter as mated adults (gynes) in hibernacula protecting them from predation, snow, and rain but barely from low environmental temperature. In different climates, they face differing overwintering temperature regimes, and therefore they may differ in their energy use. We investigated how much of energy resources built up until autumn is used during diapause dormancy in natural hibernacula by measuring lipid, glycogen, and free carbohydrate content in autumn an...

Sex impacts treatment decisions in multiple sclerosis
ConclusionsReal-world treatment decisions are influenced by sex-related aspects. Awareness of these associations should prevent unwarranted differences in MS care. (Source: Journal of Neurology)

Description of Discocotyle ciray n. sp. (Monogenea: Discocotylidae) from Parahucho perryi (Brevoort) from Hokkaido, Japan, with a redescription of D. sagittata (Leuckart, 1842)
Syst Parasitol. 2024 Mar 4;101(2):24. doi: 10.1007/s11230-023-10146-9.ABSTRACTDiscocotyle sagittata (Leuckart, 1842) (Monogenea: Discocotylidae) is redescribed, based on specimens collected from the type host, Salmo trutta Linnaeus, from the type locality, Freiburg, Germany, supplemented with specimens from S. trutta and rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum) reared in an Austrian aquarium. The diagnosis of the genus Discocotyle Diesing, 1850 is emended. Discocotyle ciray n. sp. is described, based on immature, preadult and adult specimens from the salmonid, Parahucho perryi (Brevoort) at Eniwa, Hokkaido, Japan. Adul...

Detection of infectious SARS-CoV-2 in ocular samples is linked to viral load in the nasopharynx
ConclusionWe could detect SARS-CoV-2 in eyes of some of the infected patients albeit at lower levels compared to nasopharyngeal swabs. However, our results also indicate that lacrimal fluid might be infectious in patients with high viral load. (Source: Frontiers in cellular and infection microbiology)

Expert consensus-based clinical recommendation for an integrative anthroposophic treatment approach to acute tonsillitis in childhood
CONCLUSION: The clinical recommendation for acute tonsillitis in children aims to simplify everyday patient care and provide decision-making support when considering and prescribing anthroposophic therapies. Moreover, the recommendation makes anthroposophic medicine more transparent for physicians, parents, and maybe political stakeholders as well.PMID:38432580 | DOI:10.1016/j.ctim.2024.103031 (Source: Complementary Therapies in Medicine)

Cost-effectiveness of teduglutide in adult patients with short bowel syndrome - a European socioeconomic perspective
CONCLUSION: Teduglutide in treating SBS-IF patients meets the traditional cost-effectiveness criteria from a European societal perspective. Nevertheless, the varying levels of teduglutide efficacy leave a degree of uncertainty to the calculations.PMID:38431119 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2024.02.031 (Source: The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)
