Exercise limitation in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: combined stress echocardiography and cardiopulmonary exercise test
ConclusionsBoth central and peripheral cardiovascular limitations are involved in exercise intolerance in HCM. Diastolic dysfunction seems to be the main driver for this limitation. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Incidence of atrial fibrillation in patients with renal infarction: A retrospective cohort analysis of the Korean national health insurance registry
Regarding the pathophysiology of renal infarction (RI), cardioembolic causes could have large proportion. However, there are notable variations in prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) among patients with RI across different studies, ranging from 17 to 65%. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the incidence of AF in patients with RI. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Impact of an expanded reimbursement policy on utilization of implantable loop recorders in patients with cryptogenic stroke in Korea
CONCLUSIONS: The expanded coverage policy for CS had a significant impact on the number of ILR implantation for CS indication. The diagnostic yield of ILR for AF/AFL detection seems better when ILR is implanted within 2 months than later. Further investigation is needed to demonstrate other clinical benefits and the optimal ILR implantation timing.PMID:38632895 | DOI:10.3904/kjim.2023.479 (Source: The Korean Journal of Internal Medicine)

Assessment of ICD eligibility in non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy patients: a  position statement by the Task Force of the Dutch Society of Cardiology
Neth Heart J. 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.1007/s12471-024-01859-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInternational guidelines recommend implantation of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) in non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy (NICM) patients with a left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) below 35% despite optimal medical therapy and a life expectancy of more than 1 year with good functional status. We propose refinement of these recommendations in patients with NICM, with careful consideration of additional risk parameters for both arrhythmic and non-arrhythmic death. These additional parameters include late gadolinium enhanc...

Deep terminal negative of the P wave in V1 and incidence of ischemic stroke: The atherosclerosis risk in communities (ARIC) study
CONCLUSION: DTNPV1 is significantly associated with higher risk of ischemic stroke. Since DTNPV1 is a simplified electrocardiographic parameter, it may help stroke prediction, a subject for further research.PMID:38636124 | DOI:10.1016/j.jelectrocard.2024.03.016 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

LDL-C and TC mediate the risk of PNPLA3 inhibition on cardiovascular diseases
CONCLUSION: This study suggests that PNPLA3 inhibition increases the risk of major CVDs. Moreover, blood LDL-C and TC may mediate a significant proportion of the associations between PNPLA3 inhibition and coronary atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, or myocardial infarction.PMID:38636099 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae264 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Associated factors with the occurrence of in-hospital cardiac arrest in patients admitted to internal medicine wards for non-cardiovascular causes
CONCLUSION: In admitted patients for non-cardiovascular causes, the use of drugs with a known risk of torsades de pointes, as well as the detection of electrical LVH and atrial fibrillation in the initial electrocardiogram, is independently associated with a higher probability of suffering a IHCA.PMID:38637218 | DOI:10.1016/j.medcli.2024.01.014 (Source: Medicina Clinica)

Ventricular response as a predictor of the termination of sustained paroxysmal atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsElevated VR rates during AF episodes may be predictors for the termination of AF, especially during the daytime and in patients with nondilated left atria. These findings may guide the development of clinical approaches to rhythm control in AF. (Source: Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology : PACE)
