Efficacy and safety of colchicine for atrial fibrillation prevention: An updated meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Atrial fibrillation (AF), the most common arrhythmia, is closely related to inflammation. Colchicine has the potent anti-inflammatory effects. Several randomized clinical trials (RCTs) have evaluated the efficacy and safety of colchicine in the prevention of AF but the results are inconsistent. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Outcomes of Percutaneous Revascularization in Severe Ischemic Left Ventricular Dysfunction
This article presents a comprehensive review of coronary revascularization versus optimal medical therapy (OMT) in patients with severe ischemic left ventricular dysfunction.Recent FindingsThe REVIVED-BCIS2 trial randomized 700 patients with extensive coronary artery disease and left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (LVEF)  ≤ 35% and viability in more than four dysfunctional myocardial segments to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) plus OMT versus OMT alone. Over a median duration of 41 months, there was no difference in the composite of all-cause mortality, heart failure hospitalization, or improvement i n ...

Evaluation on mortality predictors after emergent percutaneous coronary intervention in acute myocardial infarction with ventricular arrhythmias: Details not to be ignored?
We have read the article “Predictors of 30-day survival after emergent percutaneous coronary intervention following ventricular tachyarrhythmias complicating acute myocardial infarction” by Kohei Ukita et al [1]. In the study Immediate CPR and single-vessel CAD were significant predictors of 30-day survival after emerge nt PCI following VF or pulseless VT complicating AMI in patients . In univariate analysis, absence of diabetes and low arterial lactate value were associated with 30-day survival. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Transseptal coronary artery —a pictorial review
AbstractA transseptal coronary artery course, also known as a transconal course, is an anomalous course of the left main coronary artery (LMCA) or the left anterior descending artery (LAD) through the conal septal myocardium. The conal septal myocardium is the posterior wall of the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT), acting as a dividing myocardial wall between the subaortic and subpulmonary outflow tracts. The initial segment of a transseptal coronary artery has an extraconal course between the aorta and the RVOT cranial to the true intramyocardial segment. The transseptal coronary artery then emerges out of the conal...

Assessment of ICD eligibility in non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy patients: a  position statement by the Task Force of the Dutch Society of Cardiology
Neth Heart J. 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.1007/s12471-024-01859-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInternational guidelines recommend implantation of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) in non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy (NICM) patients with a left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) below 35% despite optimal medical therapy and a life expectancy of more than 1 year with good functional status. We propose refinement of these recommendations in patients with NICM, with careful consideration of additional risk parameters for both arrhythmic and non-arrhythmic death. These additional parameters include late gadolinium enhanc...

Diagnosis and Management of Cardiac Sarcoidosis: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association
Circulation. 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.1161/CIR.0000000000001240. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiac sarcoidosis is an infiltrative cardiomyopathy that results from granulomatous inflammation of the myocardium and may present with high-grade conduction disease, ventricular arrhythmias, and right or left ventricular dysfunction. Over the past several decades, the prevalence of cardiac sarcoidosis has increased. Definitive histological confirmation is often not possible, so clinicians frequently face uncertainty about the accuracy of diagnosis. Hence, the likelihood of cardiac sarcoidosis should be thought of as a continuum (d...

Evaluation of the introduction of a single-lead ECG device and digital cardiologist consultation platform among general practitioners in the Netherlands
Prim Health Care Res Dev. 2024 Apr 18;25:e18. doi: 10.1017/S1463423624000057.ABSTRACTAIM: To evaluate the use of a single-lead electrocardiography (1L-ECG) device and digital cardiologist consultation platform in diagnosing arrhythmias among general practitioners (GPs).BACKGROUND: Handheld 1L-ECG offers a user-friendly alternative to conventional 12-lead ECG in primary care. While GPs can safely rule out arrhythmias on 1L-ECG recordings, expert consultation is required to confirm suspected arrhythmias. Little is known about GPs' experiences with both a 1L-ECG device and digital consultation platform for daily practice.METH...

Ventricular response as a predictor of the termination of sustained paroxysmal atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsElevated VR rates during AF episodes may be predictors for the termination of AF, especially during the daytime and in patients with nondilated left atria. These findings may guide the development of clinical approaches to rhythm control in AF. (Source: Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology : PACE)

Efficacy of early administration of sacubitril/valsartan after coronary artery revascularization in patients with acute myocardial infarction complicated by moderate-to-severe mitral regurgitation: a randomized controlled trial
AbstractEffects of angiotensin receptor/neprilysin inhibitors (ARNI) on ventricular remodeling in patients with heart failure, especially heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), are better than those of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI). Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) complicated by mitral regurgitation exacerbates ventricular remodeling and increases the risk of heart failure. There is limited evidence on the effects of early administration of ARNI in patients with AMI complicated by mitral regurgitation. The aim of this trial was to examine the effectiveness and the safety of early administ...

Opioids-Induced Long QT Syndrome: A Challenge to Cardiac Health
Cardiovasc Toxicol. 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1007/s12012-024-09853-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe challenge posed by opioid overdose has become a significant concern for health systems due to the complexities associated with drug prohibition, widespread clinical use, and potential abuse. In response, healthcare professionals have primarily concentrated on mitigating the hallucinogenic and respiratory depressant consequences of opioid overdose to minimize associated risks. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that most opioids possess the capacity to prolong the QT interval, particularly in cases of overdose, thereby pot...
