A real ‐time signal processing software package for the electrophysiology laboratory
ConclusionWe have developed and demonstrated the feasibility of a readily scalable and open-access Python-based plug in to an electroanatomic mapping system (EnSiteX) to allow real-time processing and display of electrogram (EGM) based information for the procedural electrophysiologist to view intraprocedurally in the electrophysiology laboratory. The availability, to the clinician, of traditional and novel EGM-based metrics at the time of intervention, such as atrial fibrillation ablation, allows for key mechanistic insights into critical unresolved questions regarding arrhythmia mechanism. Arrhythmias and ion channelopathies causing sudden cardiac death in Hispanic/Latino and Indigenous populations
AbstractThe limited literature and increasing interest in studies on cardiac electrophysiology, explicitly focusing on cardiac ion channelopathies and sudden cardiac death in diverse populations, has prompted a comprehensive examination of existing research. Our review specifically targets Hispanic/Latino and Indigenous populations, which are often underrepresented in healthcare studies. This review encompasses investigations into genetic variants, epidemiology, etiologies, and clinical risk factors associated with arrhythmias in these demographic groups. The review explores the Hispanic paradox, a phenomenon linking healt...

Optimal timing of electrical cardioversion for acute decompensated heart failure caused by atrial arrhythmias: The earlier, the better?
AbstractThe optimal timing for electrical cardioversion (ECV) in acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) with atrial arrhythmias (AAs) is unknown. Here, we retrospectively evaluated the impact of ECV timing on SR maintenance, hospitalization duration, and cardiac function in patients with ADHF and AAs. Between October 2017 and December 2022, ECV was attempted in 73 patients (62 with atrial fibrillation and 11 with atrial flutter). Patients were classified into two groups based on the median number of days from hospitalization to ECV, as follows: early ECV (within 8  days,n = 38) and delayed ECV (9 days or more,n =...

Surgical Coronary Revascularization in Patients With Underlying Atrial Fibrillation: State-of-the-Art Review
The number of individuals referred for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) with preoperative atrial fibrillation (AF) is reported to be 8% to 20%. Atrial fibrillation is a known marker of high-risk patients as it was repeatedly found to negatively influence survival. Therefore, when performing surgical revascularization, consideration should be given to the concomitant treatment of the arrhythmia, the clinical consequences of the arrhythmia itself, and the selection of adequate surgical techniques. Surveillance Imaging and Management of Cardiac Sarcoidosis after Advanced Heart Failure Therapies
Cardiac sarcoidosis (CS), an inflammatory disorder characterized by granulomatous inflammation, can manifest as heart failure (HF), ventricular arrhythmias, and conduction disease (1). Despite immunosuppression and medical therapy for HF, a subset of CS patients will progress to end-stage HF requiring left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy and/or heart transplantation (HT) which are associated with excellent outcomes (2, 3). The optimal surveillance strategy for monitoring CS recrudescence after advanced heart failure therapies remains undefined. (Source: The American Journal of Cardiology)

Prediction of severe ventricular arrhythmias in mitral valve prolapse patients by exercise ECG
Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a common condition (prevalence 2-3 %)1, with a good prognosis. However, some MVP patients experience severe ventricular arrhythmias (VA). Identifying patients at risk is challenging and evidence is sparse. The predictive role of exercise testing in MVP has not been investigated. We aimed to explore whether exercise ECG could predict subsequent severe VA in MVP patients. (Source: Heart Rhythm)

Clinico-haematobiochemical and cardiac alterations in Trypanosoma evansi infected buffaloes of Andhra Pradesh, India
AbstractThe present research aimed to document the incidence, clinical signs, haematological, and serum biochemical alterations, as well as electrocardiography and echocardiography findings in 62 buffaloes (selected from a total of 240) infected withTrypanosoma evansi. The study spanned one year, from January 2022 to December 2022. Morphological identification ofTrypanosoma evansi was done by the presence of a centrally positioned nucleus with a small sub-terminal kinetoplast at the posterior position through microscopic examination of Giemsa stained peripheral blood smears. The incidence of trypanosomosis were determined ...

A case report of ventricular fibrillation following Shockwave intravascular lithotripsy during percutaneous coronary intervention
Shockwave intravascular lithotripsy (S-IVL) is widely used during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of calcified coronary arteries. Ventricular capture beats during S-IVL are common but arrhythmias are ... (Source: BMC Cardiovascular Disorders)

Patient vulnerability in stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation  (STAR): a preliminary ethical appraisal from the STOPSTORM.eu consortium
AbstractThis preliminary ethical appraisal from the STOPSTORM.eu consortium is meant to raise critical points that clinicians administering stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation should consider to meet the highest standards in medical ethics and thus promote quality of life of patients recruited for radiotherapy treatments at a  stage in which they experience a significant degree of vulnerability. Classification Method of ECG Signals Based on RANet
AbstractBackgroundElectrocardiograms (ECG) are an important source of information on human heart health and are widely used to detect different types of arrhythmias.ObjectiveWith the advancement of deep learning, end-to-end ECG classification models based on neural networks have been developed. However, deeper network layers lead to gradient vanishing. Moreover, different channels and periods of an ECG signal hold varying significance for identifying different types of ECG abnormalities.MethodsTo solve these two problems, an ECG classification method based on a residual attention neural network is proposed i...

Atrial fibrillation de novo in acute coronary syndrome
Arch Cardiol Mex. 2024;94(2):181-190. doi: 10.24875/ACM.23000008.ABSTRACTOne of the complications during an acute coronary syndrome event is the presence of arrhythmias. Among them, those of the supraventricular type, especially atrial fibrillation, carry a poor prognosis both in the short and long term, being the cause of situations such as cerebrovascular event, ventricular arrhythmias, and increased mortality. The arrhythmia tends to appear in a certain population group with particular risk factors during the index event in approximately 10% of cases. Appropriate treatment at the time of its onset, thanks to the use of ...
