Antifungal activity of extracts from < em > Justicia < /em > species against < em > Fusarium graminearum < /em >
Nat Prod Res. 2024 Apr 5:1-6. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2024.2334334. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFusarium graminearum causes destructive ear rot diseases in maize and wheat. New antifungals are essential to combat this pathogen, and aerial parts of Justicia species (Acanthaceae) are a potential source. We investigated the antifungal activity of extracts from stems and leaves of five Justicia species native to Northwest Argentina. The aerial parts were subjected to sequential extractions with dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and methanol. The resulting extracts were tested by the disc diffusion method against F. graminearum s...

Comparison of two serological diagnosis tests for bovine paratuberculosis
AbstractMycobacterium avium subsp.paratuberculosis (MAP) is the causal agent of paratuberculosis (PTBC), a chronic infectious granulomatous enteritis of ruminants. The PTBC diagnosis with commercial ELISA has limitations in sensitivity and specificity, and its results depend on the state of progress of the disease. This research aimed to evaluate two different ELISAs: (a) an “in-house” ELISA with a sonicated antigen obtained from a MAP I47 strain, and (b) a commercial ELISA. In total, the evaluated sample consisted of 394 bovine serum samples from 12 farms in Argentina with high (5–9%) and low (≤ 0.05%) prevalenc...

Enhancing biological control of postharvest green mold in lemons: Synergistic efficacy of native yeasts with diverse mechanisms of action
by Martina Mar ía Pereyra, Mariana Andrea Díaz, Silvana Vero, Julián Rafael Dib Argentina is among the most important lemon fruit producers in the world.Penicillium digitatum is the primary lemon fungal phytopathogen, causing green mold during the postharvest. Several alternatives to the use of synthetic fungicides have been developed, being the use of biocontrol yeasts one of the most promising. Although many of the reports are based on the use of a single yeast species, it has been shown that the combination of agents with different mechanisms of action can increase control efficiency through synergistic effects. The...

Agave fructanos promote in vitro biofilm formation with a probiotic consortium Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. lactis, L. delbrueckii ssp. bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus
This study aimed to evaluate in vitro the biofilm formation in a consortium of lactic acid bacteria: Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. lactis, Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. bulgaricus y Streptococcus thermophilus in the presence of AF at different concentrations: 0%, 0,1%, 4%, 8% y 16%. The addition of 0,1% of AF correlates with the best capacity for biofilm formation. The findings imply the possibility of modulating the biofilm formation of lactic acid bacteria with AF. These results can contribute positively to the host, by generating intestinal homeostasis, colonization resistance, stability to food digestion and chemical...

Comparative proteomic analysis of the hemolymph and salivary glands of < i > Rhodnius prolixus < /i > and < i > R < /i > . < i > colombiensis < /i > reveals candidates associated with differential lytic activity against < i > Trypanosoma cruzi < /i > Dm28c and < i > T < /i > . < i > cruzi < /i > Y
Conclusions/SignificanceThe lysis resistance observed in the Dm28c strain would be occurring at the DTU I level.T.cruzi I is the DTU with the greatest geographic distribution, from the south of the United States to central Chile and Argentina, a distribution that could be related to resistance to oxidative stress from vectors. Likewise, we can say that lysis against strain Y could occur at the level of DTU II and could be a determinant of the vector inability of these species to transmitT.cruzi II. Future proteomic and transcriptomic studies on vectors and the interactions of the intestinal microbiota with parasites will h...

Pharmacist access and training process for residency in Hospital Pharmacy in Argentina
The objective of Hospital Pharmacy residencies is to train pharmaceutical professionals with the necessary competencies to ensure the care of patients through the optimization of the safe, effective, and efficient use of medications and healthcare products tailored to each patient's individual therapy. Hospital Pharmacy residencies have demonstrated that pharmacists acquire specialized training that can be decisive in influencing healthcare policies related to the safe use of medications and healthcare products. Therefore, actions to promote and encourage interest in this field among pharmaceutical professionals are necess...

Association between environmental gradient of anthropization and phenotypic plasticity in two species of triatomines
Triatoma garciabesi and T. guasayana are considered secondary vectors of Trypanosoma cruzi and frequently invade rural houses in central Argentina. Wing and head structures determine the ability of triatomines to... (Source: Parasites and Vectors)
